This style guide aims to set a standard for voice line transcriptions, making them consistent across pages and between different editors.

== General Rules ==
Transcriptions should match the in-game caption as closely as possible. Changes can be made to correct grammar, unusual punctuation or to make the tone of the line more clear. Italics are allowed for emphasis. Do not use brackets, links or boldened text in transcriptions. Transcriptions of one line or conversation should be consistent across pages.

== Structure ==
The overarching structure of quote pages can be found in the [[Deadlock:Style guide|Style Guide]]. The order of voice line transcriptions should match the order given in the files.

Some voice lines have variations, marked, for example,  as “_alt_01” in the files. These lines go in the same field as the main line, are put in brackets an are marked with “Alt:” preceding the transcription.  If there are multiple alternative lines, precede the transcription with "Alt lines:" and put the lines in quotation marks, seperating the different lines with semicolons. If the transcription of the alternative line is identical to the main line, this can be omitted. Make sure to put a line break between the main line and the alternative lines.

For conversations, one field holds one conversation. Audio is cut to contain the entire conversation in one file. To show which character is speaking, precede the transcription with the characters name in bold letters. If one conversation partner does not have lines yet, the transcription can be left empty.

== Audio Description ==
Audio descriptions, such as sighing, laughing or other noises that cannot be written, are marked with square brackets. The descriptor should be in italics to more clearly differentiate from normal text. If transcribing the sound is more readable than describing it, then it should be transcribed.

== Other Languages ==
There are characters who frequently speak languages other than English. A sentence at the top of the quote page should disclose the second spoken language. For example, this is how it is done on [[Ivy/Quotes|Ivy's quote page]]: "Some of Ivy's lines are spoken in Spanish, or a mix of Spanish and English. They will have translation in italics."

Some characters say one-off sentences in other languages. In those cases, the line is still written in the spoken language, but the following translation is preceded by the language that is being translated from.

The transcription in plain text is in the spoken language, followed by an italicized translation, divided by round brackets.

Deadlock being a world of the mystical, sometimes a character will speak an unknown language, such as [[Ixian]]. Checking the in-game caption provides the proper transcription, however, a translation is currently impossible. Adding "(''Ixian'')" to the end of the transcription sufficiently marks it as such.
