This guide will walk you through the essential first steps to becoming a contributor on the Deadlock Wiki.

The Golden Rule: Be Bold!

The most important thing to know is that you can't permanently break anything. Every edit is saved to a page's "History" tab and can be easily undone.

Don't worry about:

• Making a mistake.
• Not being perfect.
• Not knowing everything.

It is better to make an imperfect edit than to make no edit at all. Every contribution helps.

Your First Steps

1. Create an Account

First, create an account. This gives you credit for your contributions and lets you use all of the wiki's features.

Note: To prevent spam, new accounts must be 4 days old with 10 edits before creating pages. If you'd like to create a page sooner, feel free to request manual confirmation on our Discord server.

2. Find Something to Edit

The easiest way to start is with small improvements. Look for things like:

• Typos or grammar mistakes.
• Missing links to other wiki pages.
• Out-of-date information on a page you know well.

A great place to look for tasks is the Recent Changes feed.

3. Make & Save Your First Edit

At the top of most pages, click Edit (for the user-friendly VisualEditor) or Edit source (to work directly with wikitext).

Once you've made your change, prepare to save:

• Summary: Briefly describe your change (e.g., "fixed typo," "updated stats"). This is crucial for helping others understand the page's history.
• Show preview: Use this to check for mistakes before you save.

When you're ready, click "Save changes." Congratulations, you're now a wiki editor!
