The supernatural always existed in the world of ''Deadlock,'' but only when an eclipse triggered an event known as the [[Maelstrom]] near the end of the 19th century, which opened [[Astral Gates]] across the Earth, did the world at large accept it wasn't just myth.

There are at least three other novels planned starring [[Ivy]], [[Holliday]] and [[Infernus]], and featuring various other heroes as side characters.
