: I don't see any harm in uploading images, but considering how character designs and artwork are still a last priority for the developers, if your goal is to document official images they might get outdated quickly. If your goal is to document historic changes, then go for it. Sylphoid (talk) 19:41, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

The Cursed Apple (sometimes called "The Map" in slang. file name dl_streets) is the default location where matches take place in Deadlock. It is a small segment of the game's version of New York City, and is where the Heroes fight to complete The Ritual and summon their respective Patron. Players can view the Minimap at any time to see the map.

Overview
Layout
The map is divided into four distinct lanes; York Avenue (Yellow Lane), Greenwich Street (Green Lane), Broadway (Blue Lane) and Park Avenue (Purple Lane). Outside of these lanes are a series of tunnels, alleyways and buildings that sometimes contain Golden Statues, crates and the neutral Denizens. In each lane, a zipline extends from both bases directly overhead, with each having the color of the corresponding lane.

Across the map in various locations players can find Golden Statues and destructible boxes. While the boxes have a 40% chance to drop souls, Golden Statues have a chance to drop permanent stat bonuses, such as Spirit Power or Weapon Damage. They spawn 2 minutes into the game and will respawn 2 minutes after being destroyed.

Outside of the lanes is an area of the map called the jungle, which is home to the neutral Denizen camps. Denizens are alien-like entities that appear in groups and will attack when provoked. They come in three different sizes: small, medium and large, and drop souls the larger they are. Being neutral units, both teams can attack the same denizen camps, and they will be aggressive to their attackers no matter which team they are on.

Solo Lanes
The two outer lanes of the Cursed Apple are solo lanes, meaning they're assigned one player each at the start of the match. The solo lanes are much closer to where the Soul Urn spawns and all biased delivery positions, which makes them good for delivering it.

Duo Lanes
The two inner lanes of the Cursed Apple are duo lanes, meaning they're assigned two players each at the start of the match. Duo lanes contain easy access to the Secret Shops as well as the Mid-Boss, Sinner's Sacrifice and almost every jungle camp throughout the Cursed Apple.

Juke Rooms
Juke Rooms are small dead-end tunnels located in specific points around the map. They are marked by a shadowy figure standing in their doorways. Juke Rooms - as implied by their name - are most often used to hide or corner enemies, as they have only one entrance. The doorway shadow also acts as a warning for fleeing players that they are about to walk into a dead-end.

Objectives
In each lane on either team there are a series of powerful, defensive structures that must be destroyed in order to reach the enemy base. The first is the Guardian, followed by the Walker and finally a pair of weaker Base Guardians. In each team's base are two Shrines, which must be destroyed in order to attack the main object: the Patron. The Patron has two phases, and will shift to the second one after the first phase has been defeated. Destroying the now weakened Patron is the condition for winning a match.

In the very middle of the map is a second major objective known as the Mid-Boss. It is a large alien creature similar to the Denizens, possessing a very large health pool, a constantly regenerating shield and a highly dangerous laser beam. After being slain, it will spawn a Rejuvenator Crystal that can be claimed by either team. The claimer's team will be bestowed with the Rejuvenation Credit buff, granting them special effects.

Map Icons
Territory
An important part of Deadlock is managing the clash of Troopers that occurs in each lane. Killing enemy Troopers allowing allied troopers to move further into the lane extends the zipline available to the player's team on that lane. The ziplines on the map will show how far a lane is "pushed" towards the enemy base, how far the zipline can take the player, and if any lanes are in need of help with a quick glance.
Teleporters can be used to quickly traverse the map horizontally.
</tabber>
</div>
Troopers (AKA: "Minions" or "Creeps") are common offensive units summoned by the Patron. They are the primary force for pushing lanes and early Soul farming.

Overview
Troopers appear to be small humanoid golems with a large burning candle atop their head. In combat, the amount of wax on the candle directly reflects the amount of health a trooper has. There are 3 types of basic troopers; Ranged Troopers, Melee Troopers and Banner Troopers.

Troopers serve as the primary means to pushing lanes, appearing in waves of 4 every 25 seconds. These waves consist of 2 Ranged Troopers, 1 Melee Trooper and 1 Banner Trooper. Troopers enter lanes by riding Ziplines in a vessel, which can be shot down to force them to drop early. Once on the ground, troopers will attempt to move down the lane, attacking other enemy troopers, heroes and structures on the way. Troopers take reduced damage from enemy Guardians, Walkers and the Patron to act as a frontline for players looking to push lanes.

During laning phase, troopers are also the most reliable source of Souls. Like most units, slain troopers will grant a small amount of souls on-kill, and release a soul orb to claim the full amount. In 2-person lanes, the souls earned for slain troopers (the trooper, plus the soul orb if secured), are awarded to each person in full.

Troopers gradually gain spirit resistance, reaching 20% resistance at 25 minutes, and 70% at 50 minutes.

Math
When slain, each Trooper gives total souls based on the following formula:<br/>
<math>75 + \left \lfloor(1.1 \text{ souls per } 1 \text{ min}) \right \rfloor + \left \lfloor(1 \text{ soul per } 5 \text{ min})\right \rfloor</math>, with 65% on last hit and 35% in the soul orb.

Ranged Trooper
Ranged Troopers are the most common type of trooper. They deal damage in a short range, resorting to melee if the player gets too close.

Melee Trooper
Melee Troopers are faster and tougher units that can only attack at close range.

Banner Trooper
Banner Troopers (or Medic Troopers) are a special type of trooper that can heal nearby heroes and other troopers. They have 3 healing charges that recharge every 35 seconds, and have a 6 second delay between casts. Healing bursts have a 15m range, and heals 80 HP to troopers and 40 HP to allied heroes (80 HP after Laning Phase).

Super Troopers
All 3 basic troopers have stronger "Super" variants, which start spawning while a team is in possession of a Rejuvenator. These super troopers are tougher and deal more damage.

OwenCMYK: Rewrote the opening section to explain how to play the game. Added a line to the laning section to explain what laning actually is. Changed formatting to not have so many singular lines.

Stub
Strategy in Deadlock, at a very basic level, involves leading your army into enemy territory down 4 lanes, destroying objectives and eventually killing the enemy team's Patron. However, the methods for doing this are where the depth and the complexity come in. The Cursed Apple is separated into four lanes: York, Greenwich, Broadway, and Park (color coded based on the first letter of their name). An army of Troopers will be deployed marching down each lane. 1 player will be sent to York and Park, while 2 players will be sent to Greenwich and Broadway.

Laning
Laning is the process of managing the troopers on a lane, and destroying objectives along it. At the start of each round, players are assigned to the four lanes according to a 1-2-2-1 setup. York and Park are solo lanes, containing one player each. And Greenwich and Broadway are duo lanes containing 2 players each. Support-centric characters like Ivy or Dynamo typically perform best in duo lanes with a high-DPS counterpart. Self-reliant characters with sustain or poke abilities, like Shiv, are typically suited for the solo lanes. The random placement seems to account for this, though the exact mechanism is unclear.

Laning is strategically divided into three phases:

* Laning Phase (Early game): Players focus on winning their lane by managing troops, Jungling, looking for easy kills, and gaining a Soul advantage.
* Midgame: Sidelaners who have won their lane start roaming to assist midlaners, while all players continue farming objectives to strengthen their team’s position.
* Endgame: Players work to solidify their team's Soul advantage, engage in most of the teamfights, and push to attack the enemy Patron.

Team Composition
A Team Composition is the 6 heroes a team employs in battle. Strategically employing heroes whose abilities complement each other, or who work best with a certain playstyle is significant for team strategy. An example of heroes with complementary abilities are Seven and Ivy. Seven can use his ultimate, Storm Cloud, as crowd control while Ivy can use the ability Air Drop to move him towards opponents. Similarly, Dynamo can teleport inside the enemy ranks and start his Singularity, while friendly Infernus charges up his Concussive Combustion, guaranteeing that the explosion blasts every target in the vicinity.

Micro Strategies
Uptime
Uptime relates to farm camps (either Troops or Neutrals), to advancing lanes, to harassing enemies, to taking down towers etc. Everything that doesn't make you idle and generate value could be considered uptime.

Positioning
Managing your positioning will allow you to control more space on the map, be effective in teamfights, deny enemy pushes, and utilize your hero's abilities most effectively. Controlling more area of the map increases the viable farming area for both Denizens and enemy Troopers for your team. Positioning in teamfights or in smaller skirmishes is critical, staying safe but active in the fight will allow you to apply pressure to the enemy while removing the opportunity for them to gain an advantage by killing you.

Cover Usage
Like any shooter, using corners and walls allows you to be covered against almost all skills and items, since most of them require Line of Sight to be activated or cause damage. Heroes will lean around cover when close to the cover's horizontal edge, exposing their head hitbox.

At present, the third person camera is locked to each hero's right shoulder, which means that peeking on the right side of cover will always expose you less than the left side. Using this to your advantage in the laning phase will give you a significant advantage when trading weapon damage.

Aiming
Some heroes require more accuracy and skill expression regarding aiming, such as Vindicta but overall aiming is a crucial part of Deadlock.

Map Knowledge
Knowledge of the Map's layout. This includes, but is not limited to, Cosmic Veil locations, Rune locations, and Teleporter locations.

Rotations
The process of traversing one part of the map to enter another. Rotation can be related to concepts such as ganking or roaming. Terminology from DOTA 2 calls ganking in the art of appearing from a fog of the jungle to surprise - and potentially kill - enemies, but rotations are more broad and are be related to creating space in different lanes and related concepts.

Movement
* The process of moving and positioning your hero.
* Involves ziplines and stamina usage in addition to sliding.

Troop Management
* The process of killing enemy troopers and denying the enemy from getting Souls from their Trooper kills.
* Can also be referred to as Creep Management.

Creep/Troop denial is a crucial part of the game's laning phase and involves shooting the Souls of one's own trooper when they are killed. This prevents enemy laners from obtaining Soul orbs by killing troopers. Denying souls is still effective after the laning phase, as souls increase in value as the game continues. Denying souls after the lane phase grants all souls to the denier, which can be an effective way to individually gain more souls if you are farming for an important item.

Pushing up lanes by killing enemy Troopers spreads your team's area of control and removes farmable space from the enemy. If your team is able to control more of the map by pushing up troopers, friendly ziplines will extend and allow trooper reinforcements to help push Guardians and Walkers, further pressing your advantage.

The solo lanes are much closer to where the Soul Urn spawns, which makes them good for delivering it.

Duo Lanes
The two inner lanes of the Cursed Apple are duo lanes, meaning they're assigned two players each at the start of the match. Duo lanes contain easy access to the Secret Shops as well as the Mid-Boss and almost every jungle camp throughout the Cursed Apple.

"Map" vs "The Cursed Apple"
* I think the article Map should be renamed to "The Cursed Apple" (it's actual name) with a redirect from "Map". While calling it "The Map" is very common in actual speech, it's not really it's name and it feels really strange to call the article that. --OwenCMYK (talk) 08:33, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
* After further consideration, I feel strongly enough about this that I've moved it. : I don't see any harm in uploading images, but considering how character designs and artwork are still a last priority for the developers, if your goal is to document official images they might get outdated quickly. While calling it "The Map" is very common in actual speech, it's not really it's name and it feels really strange to call the article that. --OwenCMYK (talk) 08:33, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

The Map (file name dl_streets) is where matches take place in Deadlock.

Deadlock is a 6v6 third-person shooter and MOBA developed by Valve Corporation. The game blends MOBA and hero shooter gameplay. It was first publicly announced on August 23, 2024. The game's release was unconventional and marked by a deliberate approach of secrecy before public acknowledgement. The game can only be played be receiving an invite from a Steam friend who already has the game. The game is still in development and is played through an Early Development Build.

Gameplay
In Deadlock, two teams of 6, The Sapphire Flame and The Amber Hand, battle through 4 lanes of New York. Each team being under the command of a god, called a Patron. The objective is to destroy the enemy's Patron while defending your own to complete The Ritual and summon your teams Patron. Players control Heroes with upgradable abilities, and items are bought using souls. Souls are earned by defeating enemies and completing tasks. They can also unlock 'boons' from Patrons, which boost Hero stats.

Heroes level up, unlock abilities, and equip items in slots for Weapon, Vitality, and Spirit. Additional Flex slots are unlocked by completing objectives. The game blends elements of shooters and MOBAs. It focuses on tactics, teamwork, and strategy, with third-person skill shots, movement, and gunplay. The game also has a unique zipline system for long-distance transportation.

Development
Deadlock was originally meant to be a sci-fi third-person MOBA called Neon Prime. It was called numerous names in its earliest stages of development. Valve trademarked Neon Prime in October 2022, but the game was renamed to Deadlock later that year. The game was leaked on various occasions from 2022 to 2024, and Valve listed the game on Steam in August 2024.
Setting & Theme
In the world of Deadlock, occult rituals and magic anomalies are commonplace and heavily regulated. The game takes place in an alternate 1900s version of New York called The Cursed Apple. 2 covenants battle to complete the Ritual and summon their Patron, a god capable of granting wishes. Each character has their own wishes and reason for wanting to summon the Patron, but their fates collide on the streets of New York. The game has strong occult themes blended with an old-school American style.
: I don't see any harm in uploading images, but considering how character designs and artwork are still a last priority for the developers, if your goal is to document official images they might get outdated quickly.

OwenCMYK: Changed some stuff to past tense to align with the removal of Ranked mode in the new patch.

Ranked mode was a game mode in Deadlock for competitive players to compete with other players of similar skill levels. By winning matches and performing well, players could earn badges for their profile depending on the highest rank they achieve.

Medals were updated once per week, requiring at least 7 games played within that week to receive a rank.

Ranked mode was added to the game on October 10th, but was not publicly available until October 15th. Medals were granted the following Tuesday, on October 22nd. The gamemode was removed on November 22nd, one month after its initial addition. Rank still appears in a player's profile.

Overview
The rank badge can be found by viewing the profile. An additional small icon is displayed when hovering other player's profiles and on the hero's icon in the end game stats.

In order to play, players:
* Must have 50 games played
* Must have zero behavior-related restrictions (Voice/text bans, report misuse, etc.)

Ranks
Players are grouped into the below ranks, with Eternus as the highest and most skilled rank available.

Within each rank, players are assigned a subrank from I to VI, with VI the highest subrank. The ranks, from lowest to highest are:

* Obscurus†
* Initiate
* Seeker
Troopers (occasionally called "Minions" or "Creeps" by players of other MOBA games) are common offensive units summoned by the Patron.

<math>75 + \left \lfloor(1.1 \text{ souls per } 1 \text{ min}) \right \rfloor + \left \lfloor(1 \text{ soul per } 5 \text{ min})\right \rfloor</math>, with 60% on last hit and 40% in the soul orb.
