The supernatural always existed in the world of ''Deadlock,'' but only when an eclipse triggered an event known as the [[Maelstrom]] near the end of the 19th century, which opened [[Astral Gates]] across the world, did the world at large accept it wasn't just myth.

Now, 50 years later, two [[Patron|Patrons]], the [[Amber Hand]] and the [[Sapphire Flame]], are trying to enter this plane, promising to fulfill the wish of anyone that helps them by completing the ritual. The ritual includes two teams fighting each other in a battle in the streets of the [[Cursed Apple]], trying to prevent the other team from summoning their patron.

[[Fairfax Industries]] is a powerful company involved in the occult industrial complex. The [[Friends of Humanity]] take their mission of protecting mankind to dangerous extremes. Many [[brands]] advertise their products and services in the Cursed Apple.

The central setting of ''Deadlock'' is the [[Cursed Apple]], where heroes from all walks of life have come together to complete the ritual. The [[Astral Gates]] have connected Earth to other planes of existence, and [[Ixia]] is one of them. Other locations include [[The Deep]], the home of odd creatures such as [[Viscous]] and [[Fathom]], the [[Bear Pit]] where the fights between [[Lash]] and [[Bebop]] take place, and [[Lost Whisper]], the oubliette that [[Seven]] has escaped from.
