'''The Hideout''' is a personal, interactive hub that functions as the main menu and social area in [[Deadlock]]. Within this space, players can freely move around, prepare for matches, and invite friends to join them. Various terminals located throughout the Hideout provide access to the game's core menus, including Play, Watch, and Learn.

For training, the Hideout includes a dedicated practice range called The Atrium, designed for testing hero movement and abilities without a loading screen. Players can access the more extensive Sandbox mode through a [[Teleporter]] found within this practice area, or through the Play menu.

== Overview ==
The Hideout serves as an immersive replacement for traditional 2D menus, with players loading into this space upon launching the game. The environment is a grand, multi-level manor room with an opulent, gothic atmosphere, featuring a large fireplace, an extensive library, and towering windows that offer a view of [[The Cursed Apple]] at dusk. This polished main hall stands in contrast to the adjoining Atrium, which has a more raw, industrial design.

== Layout == 
Players spawn in the center of the main hall.
* Directly in front is the '''Play Terminal''', which serves as the room's focal point.
* To the right is the '''Learn to Play Terminal''', situated in a cozy library nook by a fireplace.
* To the left is the '''Ranked Terminal''' and a path that leads towards the '''Shop & Atrium'''.
* In the back-right corner of the room is a separate viewing lounge that houses the '''Watch Terminal'''.
A large, ornate staircase dominates the back of the room, leading to an upper balcony. The left side of the balcony is a furnished trophy room, while the right side is an undeveloped storage area filled with crates and sandbags.

== Functional Areas ==
The main functionalities of the game are accessed through distinct stations scattered around the room. Interacting with a terminal opens a full-screen UI menu.

=== Play Terminal ===
Located in the center of the room, the Play Terminal is the primary station for matchmaking. It appears as a circular table surrounded by a glowing green summoning circle. Interacting with it opens the "Select Play Mode" menu, which includes options for:

Situated in the library area to the right of the main hall, this terminal is a book resting on a stand in front of an armchair. Interacting with it provides access to the game's Basic Tutorial. This is also accessible from the Play Terminal for new players.

=== Watch Terminal ===
Found in a back room, the Watch Terminal consists of a vintage film projector aimed at a screen. This station is used to access the replay and spectator system, allowing players to watch live matches or search for a specific match by its ID.

=== News Terminal ===
The news terminal is a corner under the stairs with newspapers, magazines and a mystic personal computer powered by candles and using an Ouija planchette as a mouse. Interacting with the terminal shows news about recent updates published on Steam.

=== Ranked Terminal ===
The ranked terminal is near the entrance to the Shop & Practice Space. The frame in the wall shows the player's current rank. The chalkboard shows the player's current rank or placement progress, as well as various chalk drawings, and the player's performance in their most recent ranked match. Interacting with it shows the player's rank, ranked match history, hero progress for ranked, and leaderboards.

=== Vote Terminal ===
Located where the Ranked Terminal now stands, the Vote Terminal was a wooden ballot box that allowed the community to influence which hero would be released next. Interacting with it opened the "Who's Next?" menu, where players could cast their votes. Players earned one vote for every match played, and an on-screen timer indicated when the next hero unlock was scheduled. Casting a vote also added stickers to the walls:

The antechamber to the practice range features a fully-stocked counter for [[The Curiosity Shop]]. While players can access the item shop at any time with a dedicated keybind.

=== The Atrium ===
The main practice area is a large, industrial-looking room with scaffolding and graffiti. It is designed for basic ability and damage testing.
* '''Bots:''' The range contains one friendly and one enemy bot. These bots are static and do not perform any actions, serving as simple targets.
* '''Training Tools:'''
** A large, red-buttoned machine allows players to toggle fast cooldowns and infinite stamina by meleeing it.
** When in a party, a crystal appears that allows players to swap teams.
* '''Teleporter to Sandbox:''' At the back of the range is a [[teleporter]] that allows players to instantly load into the full Sandbox mode for more advanced training options.
* '''Animals:''' The Atrium has a cat and a flying owl. The cat chases the ball, as well as {{HeroIcon|Calico}} in {{AbilityIcon|Ava}}'s form, the laser pointer from {{HeroIcon|Vindicta}}'s {{AbilityIcon|Assassinate|l1=rifle}}, heroes turned into rabbits by{{HeroIcon|Sinclair}}'s {{AbilityIcon|Rabbit Hex}}, {{HeroIcon|The Doorman}}'s {{AbilityIcon|Call Bell}}, and {{HeroIcon|Viscous}} in {{AbilityIcon|Goo Ball}} form.
** Kicking the ball into the teleporter 3 times will spawn a rabbit. The rabbit has the same behavior as the cat. If the cat and the rabbit come into proximity of each other, and aren't already chasing one of the aforementioned objects, the cat will chase the rabbit around the room.
** Shooting the owl makes it disappear and spawns a new owl, as well as a second one, increasing the number of owls by one every time all owls are shot. It also shows a counter of how many owls were shot by the player in the current session.

== Customization ==

The Hideout is planned to be customizable with items unlocked by the player. The first two unlockables are:

* A snow globe above the fireplace for players who engaged in the [[Seasonal_events#2024|Winter 2024]] event challenges.
* A Merry Midtown Mayhem Souvenir for players who participated in the [[Seasonal_events#2025|Winter 2025]] event.

== Status ==
The Hideout has a unique [https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/enhancedrichpresence Rich Presence] status for each hero that appears for friends and players in a party in the main menu, as well as on the Steam friends menu.
