Venator is a middle-aged burly white man with dark blue eyes (the left one is white and seems to be blind), black hair with gray streaks, a short beard and moustache, and burn scars over the left side of his face and left arm. He wears a military vest with crosses over priest clothes (the left side of which is burned at the end), black pants, black boots with purple shoelaces, fingerless gloves, and a watch in his left arm. He carries a Bible, 3 stakes, a [[wikipedia:Thurible|thurible]], and his crossbow used for {{AbilityIcon|Ira Domini}}. His weapon is a submachine gun similar to a Heckler & Koch [[wikipedia:Heckler_&_Koch_MP5|MP5]], with its under-barrel grenade launcher decorated to resemble a [[wikipedia:Votive_candle|Votive candle]], and [[wikipedia:Rosary#Rosary_beads|Rosary beads]] in place of a sling harness.

"Venator" means "hunter" in Latin. His ultimate {{AbilityIcon|Ira Domini}} translates to "Wrath of the Lord".

Venator's weapon is named after the Bible passage Jeremiah 51:20: "Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms".

While Abrams' side of the conversation is missing, Venator and Abrams had an incident at a brownstone where Venator made a judgement call that "saved lives", despite Abrams' concerns about Venator's methods. What exactly happened in the brownstone is unclear, but Venator doesn't blame Abrams for "not having the stomach to do what needed to be done", and considers Abrams to be a good man.<ref name=":1" />
