Johann Geist Jr. from The Binding of Oathkeeper
At this moment, his two favorite hobbies are medicine, and being sanctimonious.

— Lady Geist

Doctor Johann Geist Jr. is the grandson of Lady Geist.

Summary

Johann Geist Jr. is a doctor born in New York.[1] He is the son of Walter Geist, and the grandson of Johann Geist and Lady Jeanne Geist.

Johann Jr.'s known patients include Lady Geist and Ms. Shelly. Like his father before him, Johann Jr. repairs and maintains the ward Lady Geist uses to contain Oathkeeper.

Johann is aware that Lady Geist kills people to feed Oathkeeper, although he hasn't seen any of her victims before The Binding of Oathkeeper.[2] Johann shows contempt towards Oathkeeper and has gotten into arguments with Lady Geist in the past over him.[3]

Lady Geist refers to Johann as "one of the best doctors in New York,"[4] although she also thinks he can be sanctimonious.[5]

Johann holds his father in high regard.[6]

The Binding of Oathkeeper

Content below contains spoilers for The Binding of Oathkeeper

Johann Jr. is one of the main characters in Lady Geist's visual novel: The Binding of Oathkeeper. His role and fate depends on what choices Lady Geist makes during the story.

In Chapter 1, Lady Geist calls Johann Jr. over to inspect Oathkeeper's weakening ward. Johann tells Geist that Oathkeeper is getting close to breaking the ward and that he can't build a better ward. After getting threatened by Lady Geist, Johann suggests learning more about Oathkeeper, or learning more about Wards.[7]

Johann has little to no impact in storylines A and B past Chapter 1, beyond contacting Dynamo to talk to Lady Geist in Chapter 2a.[8]

Storyline C, D, E and F

In Chapter 2b, Johann Jr. tells Lady Geist what he learned about Oathkeeper from Walter Geist's research.

In Chapter 4d, Lady Geist wants to transfer Oathkeeper to Johann Jr., which he passionately refuses. Johann suggests Geist give Oathkeeper to some other terrible person she knows such as Maximilian Fairfax, but takes it back once Geist points out that Fairfax would likely weaponize Oathkeeper for the Occult Industrial Complex. After Lady Geist suggests giving Oathkeeper to Shelly Fisher, Johann snaps and tells Geist that there's no cure for Oathkeeper and that her time is up before leaving.

Johann doesn't appear again in storyline C, D, E or F, but he does contact Ms. Shelly to warn her about Lady Geist and Oathkeeper.[9]

Storyline G and H

In Chapter 3c, Lady Geist decides to try and play off Oathkeeper's cruelty. To do this, they plan to summon the Patrons to keep Oathkeeper obedient for 200 years at the cost of Johann Jr.'s life.

The plan is put into action in Chapter 3d, where Lady Geist calls Johann over for a cup of tea. Johann asks about Oathkeeper, where Geist reveals the plan to make a deal with the Patrons. Johann asks why she doesn't just banish Oathkeeper, as he believed the point of the Oathkeeper problem was to get rid of him. Lady Geist reveals that she has no intention of giving up Oathkeeper, which causes Johann to refuse to have any part in Geist's plan. Unfortunately for Johann, the tea he drank was drugged, causing him to fall unconscious.

In Chapter 5g, Lady Geist succeeds in summoning the Patron and takes Johann Jr. to them. She demands a sacrifice: Johann's life for 200 years of obidience from Oathkeeper. Johann begs Geist to stop, while Oathkeeper consents to the deal. Johann is killed as the Patron grants the wish, leaving his bloody body lying in an alleyway.

In Chapter 5h, Lady Geist succeeds in summoning the Patron, just like in Chapter 5g. Right before makes her wish, she remembers the time she first held Johann Jr. as a baby, with her son Walter Geist by her side. The memories of her family causes Lady Geist to change her wish at the last moment, sacrificing herself to banish Oathkeeper from Earth's realm. Some time passes as Johann visits the Geist family's grave, and while he's still a little shaken by Geist almost killing him, he ultimately thanks her.

Storyline I

Beyond Chapter 2b, Johann Jr. doesn't appear in Storyline I until Chapter 5, after Lady Geist succeeds in summoning the Patron and seperates herself from Oathkeeper. Deciding to enjoy the rest of her life in Paris, Geist and Johann wait for her flight at an airport. Geist thanks Johann for his help and tells him he's very much his father's son, which he appreciates. She also leaves him a bag of valuables as payment for being a difficult patient for Johann.
