Billy

This page has a glossary of gameplay terms commonly used by the Deadlock community. Most of these terms have been adopted from other MOBA games.

A-Z

AOE

  • Initialism for "area of effect"

Backdoor

  • Attacking an objective without the attacker's troopers reaching it first.

Baron

  • The equivalent term to   Mid-Boss in League of Legends

BKB

BM

  • Initialism for "bad manners"

BRB

  • Initialism for "be right back"

Burst

  • Dealing a massive amount of damage in a very short window of time

Carry

  • A type of hero who scales well with Souls and therefore is able to overpower most threats in the late game

CC

  • Initialism for "Crowd Control", referring to Status Effects that limit a hero's ability to act or move (e.g., Stuns, Silences, Slows, and Roots)

CD

Creep

CS

  • Initialism for   Counterspell. May also refer for "Creep Score." Borrowed from Dota and League of Legends, heavily used to refer to the number of   Troopers and   Denizens a player has killed.

Debuff Remover

Deny

  • The act of shooting the soul orb of a dying enemy   Trooper before the enemy can, stealing the souls for yourself

DoT

DPS

  • Initialism for "damage per second"

Feed

  • Intentionally or unintentionally giving the enemy team souls

Fountain

  • Spawn room

Frontliner

  • A type of hero who is relatively durable and seeks to disrupt enemy players

Gank

  • Ambushing one or more enemies, usually by rotating out of your assigned lane to create a numbers advantage

Hook

Jungle

  • The area of the map between lanes, or the act of farming   Denizens (neutral camps) within those areas

M1

Mid

Minion

  • The equivalent term to   Trooper in League of Legends and Smite

Patron

  • The final core objective inside the enemy base. Equivalent to the "Ancient" in Dota or "Nexus" in League of Legends

Power Spike

  • A point in the game where a hero becomes significantly stronger, due to unlocking a specific ability upgrade, item, or bonus points in their build

Remlings

Skillshot

  • An ability that requires aiming to hit

Snowball

  • Using an early-game advantage to gain exponential momentum, becoming highly over-leveled and dominating the rest of the match

Squishy

T1 / T2

Throw

  • Giving advantage to the initially losing team

Turret

Ult

  • Short for "Ultimate", referring to a hero's fourth ability

Urn / Spirit Urn

  • The   objective that periodically spawns and must be carried to a drop-off point on the opposite side of the map to grant souls to the carrier.
