- Rem had an unused "clone" ability datamined, in which he could copy the model and abilities of any ally hero, minus their ultimate.
- Rem has unused "sleepy" voicelines for every other hero in the game, presumably meant for the clone ability.
- Rem's name references Rapid Eye Movement, a unique and active phase of sleep in which most dreaming occurs.
- Rem's hybrid anatomy of bird and mammal resembles that of a wingless Griffin or Keythong in ancient mythology.
- Rem has a line where he dreams about mangos,[1] which are the favorite fruit of developer IceFrog and an item in Dota 2.[2]
