Johann Jr.: No, no, i-it's fine...

Lady Geist: You're very convincing, doctor...

Johann Jr.: I'm sorry, it's just that seeing it is different than...

Lady Geist: Of course, of course... Let me, ah, move the rug.

Lady Geist covers a blood stain on the floor with a rug.

Johann Jr.: Thank you. So!.. What's going on?

Lady Geist: It's Oathkeeper. He's... Stronger? Angrier? Hungrier? I don't know. Life doesn't sustain me the way that it used to. Oh, don't look at me like that! You're safe here.

Johann Jr.: Tell that to the last guy...

Lady Geist: If I wanted to talk to the last guy I probably wouldn't have killed him.

Johann Jr.: You're hilarious. Let me see your arm.

Johann Jr. inspects Oathkeeper's lock.

Lady Geist: Your dad would have laughed at my jokes.

Johann Jr.: My dad had a horrible sense of humor.

Lady Geist: He was a good man.

Johann Jr.: He did his best.

Johann Jr. finishes his inspection.

Johann Jr.: The lock is still intact, but... the ward is getting weaker.

Lady Geist: You reapplied the ward 5 years ago!

Johann Jr.: I know. It's concerning.

Lady Geist: How concerning?..

Johann Jr.: How long have you had Oathkeeper trapped in your arm? Thirty years?

Lady Geist: Closer to f... 50.

Johann Jr.: Very concerning! Do you know how the warding actually works?

Lady Geist: Just the basics. Your father described it as a puzzle box that Oathkeeper would be compelled to open... and that the more focus and energy he exerts unraveling the ward the less he has to make demands of me.

Johann Jr.: Well, after 50 years, it looks like Oathkeeper got better at multitasking.

Lady Geist: So build a better ward!

Johann Jr.: I can't.

Lady Geist: A pity. I don't maintain relationships with... useless people.

Johann Jr.: I thought I was safe here!

Lady Geist: And I thought you were good at your job! We both made mistakes.

Johann Jr.: I can't tell if you're joking.

Lady Geist: Do you want to find out? Or would you rather just propose a solution?

Lady Geist: I want to host a bit of a... symposium on my... condition, as you called it. More of a gala, really. It's pivotal that the right people are in attendance. The brightest minds.

Dynamo: Oh, I imagine I can drum up some interest. Uh, when next year are you thinking?

Lady Geist: Oh, it's in two weeks.

Dynamo: Ah-uh-that's simply impossible. The sort of folks you want to speak with are taking sabbaticals, or doing field research... And as we both know, no one's leaving the Black Chateau to come to your event.

Lady Geist: For every expert you bring, I will donate a quarter-million dollars to your department.

Dynamo: Annnd what a gala it will be! I'll get you a list of names soon.

Lady Geist: Thank you, professor.

Lady Geist and Johann Jr. meet up in a café.

Lady Geist: Tell me you have good news.

Johann Jr.: I have news. How good is relative.

Lady Geist: You're very glib today.

Johann Jr.: Well, we're in a public place, so I figured I'd live on the edge.

Lady Geist: What did you learn about Oathkeeper?

Johann Jr.: The notes dad kept on him were meticulous... I still haven't fully digested everything, but there's a promising option emerging.

Lady Geist: Go on.

Johann Jr.: Oathkeeper wasn't named ironically: that thing is like the Patron Saint of Faustian bargains. So, while I'm sure he's pissed that you trapped him for 50 years, there's probably a part of him that's impressed.

Lady Geist: So what's the promising option?

Johann Jr.: I just told you.

Lady Geist: ... I want to make sure I understand: the ward is failing?

Johann Jr.: Yes.

Lady Geist: And there is nothing that you, me, or a minor act of god can do to change that?

Johann Jr.: Correct.

Lady Geist: But I should be encouraged by the fact that I tricked Oathkeeper into bondage?

Johann Jr.: Exactly!

Lady Geist: Out of respect for your father, I'll let you finish that horrid cup of coffee before I kill you.

Johann Jr.: I don't think you're seeing the big picture.

Lady Geist: As soon as the ward fails, I'm as good as dead!

Johann Jr.: Possibly.

Lady Geist: "Possibly"?! For 5 decades, Oathkeeper's had nothing to do but stew on what it can do to me when he's free. Do you know what 50 years of revenge looks like?

Johann Jr.: I don't, and that's why you have a chance... Oma, you are a uniquely cruel woman, and Oathkeeper has to respect that on some level. That thing lives to make deals, so make it another one.

Lady Geist: I have no leverage, why would he... oh my god. Of course... he doesn't know how close he is to breaking free, does he?

Johann Jr.: I don't think so.

Lady Geist goes outside.

McGinnis: You hate these things too?

Lady Geist: I threw this "thing".

McGinnis: Whoops! [Chuckles]... want a beer?

Lady Geist: Do I look like a stevedore? Who are you?

McGinnis: Maggie McGinnis. I work at -

Lady Geist: Fairfax Industries. If I recall, you were the brat that Maximilian paraded around incessantly.

McGinnis: Well. Thanks for the open bar.

Lady Geist: Apologies, Ms. McGinnis. You were just incredibly annoying the last time we met.

McGinnis: I probably was. I was also 15. What's your excuse for being an asshole?

Lady Geist: How dare you -

McGinnis: Word of advice, Lady Geist: be nicer. You never know who could actually help you out. Good luck.

McGinnis leaves.

Lady Geist: I love it when you posture as if I don't have you under lock and key. You will be fed when I choose to feed you, and not a moment before.

Lady Geist: Is weakening. You think I haven't noticed? Last year, I could kill a vagrant and enjoy the rest of swimsuit season. Now the same hobo would barely last me a drive to The Hamptons. At some point, le jeu n'en vaut pas la chandelle.

Oathkeeper: Now who's posturing?

Lady Geist: What good is eternal life if I spend it in an OSIC oubliette? And we both know that's exactly where I would end up if I gave in to your every whim. No. Your demands are too much... and so I'm given little choice but to... age gracefully.

Oathkeeper: So what? You toss me more scraps for the next 50 years?

Lady Geist: My dear Oathkeeper... The scraps you are fed today will feel like a banquet compared to the crumbs you will be fed in the future.

Oathkeeper: Such conviction. I almost believe you.

Lady Geist: Believe me, don't believe me... Either way, this dynamic of ours is not really benefiting either of us anymore, is it?

Oathkeeper: It sounds like you're about to propose a solution.

Lady Geist: You don't want to be trapped in my arm. I don't want to be killed if I release you.

Oathkeeper: So pay off your debt to me.

Lady Geist: Did you already forget the part where I said I had no intention of obeying your whims?

Oathkeeper: A deal made needs to be honored. It is my nature.

Lady Geist: And it will be. Just not by me.

Oathkeeper: Hm, go on.

Lady Geist: I don't release you. I transfer you. To someone I trust. You get a host for your... regular indulgences...

Lady Geist: So all lives aren't equal...

Oathkeeper: If you honestly believed they were, we wouldn't be talking. Now... do we have a deal?

Flashforward back to the present day.

Lady Geist: I fed you plenty.

Oathkeeper: And yet, not nearly enough. Your binding of me -

Lady Geist: Ensured favorable terms.

Oathkeeper: - Was against the spirit of the bargain. And when I am free of this prison, you will answer for it.

Lady Geist: Oh, I believe you. But you will be waiting for a very long time, my friend. Unless...

Lady Geist: Unless you're interested in making a deal.

Lady Geist arrives at McGinnis' workshop. McGinnis is busy welding something.

Lady Geist: Pardon me, Ms. McGinnis... I believe we started off on the wrong foot.

McGinnis continues working.

McGinnis: I'm busy.

Lady Geist: I understand that, it's just -

McGinnis: None of the other big brains at your little party were able to help you?

Lady Geist: Yes.

McGinnis: Sucks to be you.

Lady Geist: Mistakes were made.

McGinnis: Where's my vase?

Lady Geist: Excuse me?

McGinnis: Rich people love to give away stupid shit when they want to apologize. It's always a vase, or a ceremonial mask, or some silver plated cheese cutting set. So again I ask you: where's my vase?

Lady Geist raises a six-pack of beer.

Lady Geist: It's not quite a vase, but I'm told the proletariat love it.

McGinnis continues working.

Lady Geist: ... That was a joke. Please, c... can we talk?

McGinnis: ... [sighs], come with me.

Lady Geist and McGinnis enter a different part of the lab.

McGinnis: You're not used to not getting your way, are you?

Lady Geist: No.

McGinnis: I appreciate the honesty.

Lady Geist: Can you help me?

McGinnis: Can I? Sure. Will I? Haven't decided yet.

Lady Geist: Why's that?

McGinnis: Well, on the one hand: it's an interesting challenge. On the other, you're just a bad person.

Lady Geist: Your mind is the engine that drives the occult war machine! Within a decade your inventions will claim millions of lives, if they haven't already.

McGinnis: Ye-uh-Sure, but my job is designing weapons. That makes me a monster in the theoretical sense. You're basically a serial killer.

Lady Geist: Eh.

McGinnis: Give me a reason to help you. Something... interesting.

Lady Geist: I have money.

McGinnis: [Scoffs], I said interesting.

Lady Geist ponders for a moment.

Lady Geist: It will likely be 50 years before there's another maelstrom. Do you really want to wait that long before you try to harness the power of a god?

McGinnis: [Chuckles]... now we're talking.

Lady Geist and McGinnis toast with their beers.

Lady Geist enters Abrams' office. Abrams is sitting at his desk.

Lady Geist: Detective Abrams. I'm sorry I missed you at the party.

Abrams: I'm sorry, who are you?

Lady Geist: Lady Jeanne Geist.

Abrams: Huh, you sound French.

Lady Geist: I am.

Abrams: Thought you'd be German.

Lady Geist: I married one.

Abrams: Guess that makes sense.

Lady Geist: I'm getting bored, detective.

Abrams: You want me to work on my tight five?

Lady Geist: I want you to tell me what you want.

Abrams: ...I need to show you something.

Abrams places the Tome on his desk.

Abrams: You know what this is?

Lady Geist: A book.

Abrams: A tome! Something ancient. Something powerful.

Lady Geist: What does it... do?

Abrams: Steal life. Sound familar?

Lady Geist: Detective, are you implying -

Abrams: I think we're past lying, Mrs. Geist.

Lady Geist: Ms. Geist.

Abrams: I thought you married a German.

Lady Geist: He died.

Abrams: I'm shocked.

Lady Geist: I loved my husband, Detective. And if you imply otherwise ever again, they will never find your body.

Abrams: You're not lacking for confidence.

Lady Geist: Like you said: we're past lying.

Abrams: Hm.

Abrams opens the Tome and locates a ripped page.

Abrams: Take a look at this. May I see your hand, please?

Lady Geist places her Oathkeeper hand on the page. The symbols on the page match her hand.

Lady Geist: The symbols, they -

Oathkeeper: [ROARS].

Abrams slams the Tome shut.

Abrams: What the hell was that?!

Lady Geist: That shouldn't have been possible!

Abrams: What do you mean?

Lady Geist: Oathkeeper is oblivious to the world outside his prison. I'm supposed to be able to choose when he sees, w-when he speaks, and - and even then, only I can hear him.

Abrams: I think it's safe to assume Oathkeeper and the Tome are connected.

Lady Geist: Indeed... What do we do?

Abrams: We summon the Patrons.

4c - Decisions Decisions

Lady Geist and Johann Jr. are in Lady Geist's home.

Johann Jr.: No.

Lady Geist: You promised you would help me!

Johann Jr.: With the ward, sure. Not with making a deal with the devil.

Lady Geist: "The devil." [scoffs], don't be so dramatic...

Johann Jr.: You're not foisting Oathkeeper on me, end of story!

Lady Geist: What would you have me do?

Johann Jr.: You know a bunch of horrible people, I'm sure any one of them would love to live forever at the cost of someone else's life.

Lady Geist: Of course I do! The question is who do I know that wouldn't turn on me the first chance they got.

Johann Jr.: What about Mr. Fairfax?

Lady Geist: Not a horrible suggestion... I'm sure he'd try to either bind or weaponize Oathkeeper, but that would be his problem, not mine.

Johann Jr.: "Weaponize"?

Lady Geist: The Occult Industrial Complex never sleeps.

Johann Jr.: Don't go to Fairfax.

Lady Geist: No, no, it was a good idea!

Johann Jr.: There has to be someone else.

Lady Geist: Ah! What about Shelly Fisher?

Johann Jr.: ... How do you know that name?

Lady Geist: Oh, I went through your files last week when you invited me over for dinner.

Johann Jr.: Why would you do that?!

Lady Geist: Because I knew you would never reveal your patients' personal information!

Johann Jr.: That woman. Is sick.

Lady Geist: Which means she's desperate! And desperate people make wonderful prospects.

Johann Jr.: Leave her alone.

Lady Geist: Your morals seem fairly arbitrary.

Johann Jr.: I can't do this anymore.

Lady Geist: Here we go again...

Johann Jr.: That thing in your arm is a cancer.

Lady Geist: Which is why I'm trying to remove it!

Johann Jr.: But you're not! You're trying to pass it onto someone else! There's no cure for Oathkeeper, dad brought you as much time as he could, but time is up!

Lady Geist: Finding a new host was your idea!

Johann Jr.: And I was wrong! Everything about it is wrong!.. I have to go...

Lady Geist and Johann Jr. are in Lady Geist's home. Lady Geist pours Johann Jr. a cup of tea, which he drinks.

Johann Jr.: So how's it going with Oathkeeper?

Lady Geist: Surprisingly well. You were right... He was very eager to renegotiate the terms.

Johann Jr.: What's he want?

Lady Geist: For me to make contact with the Patrons.

Johann Jr.: Oma, you're in this mess because you made a deal with a spirit and now you want to go out into The Maelstrom and make a deal with another?

Lady Geist: I'm not making a deal with The Patrons, I'm just using them as a notary...

Johann Jr.: W-What do you mean?

Lady Geist: Well, as you know, life is brought with life. The Patron is a means to... increase the exchange rate, so to speak.

Johann Jr.: Why not just ask them to banish Oathkeeper?

Lady Geist: Why would I do that?

Johann Jr.: The whole point was to get rid of that thing!

Lady Geist: No, the point was to save my life! We've already established that you're incapable of repairing the ward, so where does that leave me? Oathkeeper escapes his prison: I die. Oathkeeper is banished from my person: I grow old. Both are unacceptable.

Johann Jr.: You're acting like growing old is a death sentence!

Lady Geist: It is!.. And it is slow. And painful. You don't understand what it's like to have your body grow frail and decrepit... for your mind to shrivel... to have others stare at you with nothing but pity... No. I will not die a crone. And if I make Oathkeeper happy? I won't have to.

Johann Jr.: I won't be a part of this.

Lady Geist: Don't be stupid. You are a part of this.

Johann Jr.: Not any more I'm not. If you think I'll help you-

Lady Geist: Darling. You don't have a choice.

Johann Jr.: Go to hell, Oma...

Johann collapses on the ground, spilling the drugged cup of tea.

Lady Geist: Oathkeeper. How much is he worth?

Oathkeeper: My, my. You are full of surprises, Jeanne.

4e - Paying off the Tab

Lady Geist stands in an alleyway, covered in blood.

Oathkeeper: Ahhh, exquisite, Geist...

Lady Geist: See? I'm a woman of my word.

Oathkeeper: You exaggerate.

Lady Geist: Please, I'm paying you back with interest. How much were they worth?

Oathkeeper: Two months.

Lady Geist: There were three of them!

Oathkeeper: Yes, but they were so... pedestrian.

Lady Geist: Ach, at this rate I'll have to kill off half the island to satisfy you.

Oathkeeper: What a lovely thought.

Lady Geist: We need an alternative.

Oathkeeper: [sighs]... What do you have in mind?

Lady Geist: The Maelstrom. With all the spirits, and rituals, and what-not there has to be a way to, uh... improve the exchange rate, or something.

Oathkeeper: Seek the blessing of the Patrons.

Lady Geist: [Scoffs], Okay...

Oathkeeper: You want to appease me without a massacre? Fight on my behalf. Summon the Patron and earn their favor. Do this, and we can be free of each other. I'll find a new host, and you will get to live out your natural life with no strings attached.

Lady Geist: "No strings." We know how that worked for both of us before.

Oathkeeper: A boon from the Patron is more powerful than either of us. It's the only way to ensure we both get what we want.

Lady Geist: Very well.

5a - A New Ward

Follows from Chapter 4a - Humble Pie

McGinnis presents a ward she built to Lady Geist.

Lady Geist: I was hoping it would be more... subtle.

McGinnis: Subtle isn't going to keep that thing in your arm from breaking free.

Lady Geist: And how many years will your ward last?

McGinnis: I'll be honest: I don't know. But I'll be dead when it does, so it's kind of not my problem.

Lady Geist: Fair enough.

McGinnis: I did my part, now the rest'll be up to you.

Lady Geist: Great - wait, what do you mean "up to me," just give me the ward and we can be done with this.

McGinnis: Not quite. The ward you currently have is a lock, it hinders Oathkeeper until he figures out how to break it. The ward I built you is more like a battery, it-

Lady Geist: Your technomancer babble is wasted on me.

McGinnis: You know I don't have to give this to you, right?

Lady Geist: Forgive me.

McGinnis: Like I was saying: I didn't build it to block Oathkeeper, I built it to drip feed it; maximizing every ounce of life and storing the surplus to keep it satisfied and docile. And with the Maelstrom upon us, the amount of mystic energy you'll be able to store in that thing will be obscene. Assuming you're willing to put in the work.

McGinnis gives Lady Geist the ward.

Lady Geist: Do you know how long the Maelstrom will last?

McGinnis: No clue. I've seen estimates as low as 20 minutes and as high as 2 hours, so you better get the most use out of your time... Are you up to it?

Lady Geist puts on the new ward.

Lady Geist: Oh McGinnis, don't worry. Tonight is going to be unforgettable.

5b - The Binding of Two

Abrams and Lady Geist succeed in summoning the Patron.

Amber Hand: Lady Geist, Detective Abrams. Through your will, I am here... What would you ask of your patron?

Abrams: Knowledge. What is the connection between the tome I carry and the spirit in Lady Geist's arm?

Amber Hand: Long ago, the Tome was used to conjure Oathkeeper.

Abrams: And how do we go about-

Amber Hand: Detective. You already received your boon.

Abrams: You didn't give me knowledge, you gave me a sentence!

Amber Hand: When asking a question, it pays to be thorough.

Abrams: The plan was to destroy the Tome with Oathkeeper inside it!

Lady Geist: That was before it became very clear that the Patron was not keen on providing multiple steps.

Abrams: I'm still stuck with the Tome!

Lady Geist: Ah, but I'm not stuck with Oathkeeper.

Abrams: Yes. But the people trying to kill me for the book can still very much find it!

Lady Geist: And that is certainly a problem for you.

Abrams: And if they release Oathkeeper, who do you think that spirit will be looking for?

Lady Geist rings the doorbell to Maximilian Fairfax's office.

Fairfax: Enter.

Lady Geist enters.

Lady Geist: Maximilian.

Fairfax: Jeanne.

Lady Geist: How are you?

Fairfax: Vexed.

Lady Geist: I'm sorry to hear that, perhaps I can help.

Fairfax: I don't suppose you know where my son is?

Lady Geist: I thought he died?

Fairfax: So did I. But tomorrow's problems are for tomorrow. Please. Have a seat.

Lady Geist: Aren't you going to offer me a drink?

Fairfax: I'm not here to serve you, Jeanne. You're more than welcome to help yourself. Now, what can I do for you?

Lady Geist: More like "What can we do for each other?"

Fairfax: You're not actually going to pretend that you have something I need, are you?

Lady Geist: Who's pretending?

Fairfax: Ha, this should be good.

Lady Geist: I didn't come here to be insulted.

Fairfax: No, you came here because you needed my help. You can dress it up however you want, but let's be honest: my phone doesn't ring unless people want something.

Lady Geist: And you don't return calls if you think someone is going to waste your time.

Fairfax: ...This is true.

Fairfax: So. What can we do for each other?

Fairfax: So Oathkeeper...

Lady Geist: Is very real.

Fairfax: Ahh, and you...

Lady Geist: I'm tired of bearing his weight.

Fairfax: Go on.

Lady Geist: Something this powerful can't be left to its own devices. It needs guidance. A strong hand... Something you alone can provide.

Fairfax: Yes, yes, and in exchange?

Lady Geist: There are some... guarantees that I'd like to see in place in regards to my foundations as well as my safety.

Fairfax: I assume you'll want a blood contract?

Lady Geist: Naturally.

Fairfax: I can have a notary here in a few days. Should be plenty of time to settle on terms.

Lady Geist: Wonderful.

Cuts to 3 days later. The blood contract has been signed and Oathkeeper is now bound to Fairfax.

Lady Geist: I'm glad we were able to come to an agreement.

Fairfax: Oathkeeper is in safe hands.

Lady Geist: Maximilian, so long as I'm in safe hands, I'm satisfied.

Lady Geist leaves.

Fairfax: So. Oathkeeper... Are you ready to change the world?

Oathkeeper: Mr. Fairfax, I thought you'd never ask.

Lady Geist knocks on Ms. Shelly's door, which Bebop opens.

Lady Geist: Excuse me, is Shelly Fisher available?

Bebop: Ms. Shelly isn't feeling well at the moment and isn't taking visitors.

Lady Geist: Well it's a good thing I'm here then! I'm an associate of Dr. Geist.

Ms. Shelly: [from inside] Send her in Bebop, I'll hear what she has to say.

Lady Geist enters Ms. Shelly's home.

Lady Geist: It's nice to meet you.

Ms. Shelly: What can I do for you, dear?

Lady Geist: It's more like what I can do for you. I know you're running out of time, Ms. Fisher, but you don't need to be. What if I told you that you can bar death from entering your home?

Ms. Shelly: I'd say it's rude to lock out a visitor.

Lady Geist: What?

Ms. Shelly: I've lived a good life, a long life, I buried my husband, and while I'm not eager to see him again, if death comes knockin', I'll come runnin'.

Lady Geist: I don't understand.

Ms. Shelly: That's 'cause you're young, dear.

Lady Geist: I'm offering you a miracle.

Ms. Shelly: Johann called and told me all about you, Lady Geist. And if you knew anything about me you'd know I traffic in creation, not death. So no. You're not offering me a miracle. You're offering me a curse.

Lady Geist: You're going to die.

Ms. Shelly: I am. But at least I'm not going to live by becoming a killer. You know what you're doing is wrong. If you didn't feel that way you wouldn't be trying to pawn off the responsibility.

Lady Geist: What am I supposed to do?

Ms. Shelly: I don't know. That's the problem with making deals with the devil... he always comes to collect.

Lady Geist lunges for Ms. Shelly. Bebop intervenes and smashes Oathkeeper's ward.

Lady Geist: NO!

Oathkeeper is freed.

Lady Geist: Oh, no... no... no...

Oathkeeper: Ahh, freedom...

Lady Geist: Oathkeeper, please...

Oathkeeper: Don't beg, Lady Geist, it's beneath you. Automaton, take your charge and leave. My friend and I need to make up for lost time.

Lady Geist: Very much so. The usual please, Hank.

Hank pours Lady Geist a drink.

Hank: Enjoy it. We'll be closing soon.

Lady Geist: I thought last call wasn't for a few hours?

Hank: No, closing closing. Alchemy Bureau wants to shut us down.

Lady Geist: I'm sorry.

Hank: Yeah... Fern and I are trying our best to save the place, but I dunno if it's too little too late.

Hank leaves. Lady Geist watches a group of people playing billiards from a distance.

Oathkeeper: I'm willing to bet someone in that group over there would be willing to make a deal. You can smell the desperation from here.

Lady Geist: I know.

Oathkeeper: So what-oh-what are we going to do about it?

Cuts to Lady Geist at the New York docks.

Lady Geist: Nothing. We're going to go on a holiday.

Oathkeeper: Ahh, tired of New York, I see? Where shall we go... Tokyo? Rome? Ooh, perhaps back to Paris? [chuckles]

Lady Geist: Oh no, my friend.

Lady Geist boards a ship.

Lady Geist: This cycle doesn't end with me pawning you off. It ends with me killing you.

Oathkeeper: This should be entertaining.

Lady Geist: Oh, I assure you it won't be. Parasites like you need a host... and when the ward fails, you'll find no ground to run to.

Oathkeeper: Where are you taking me?

Lady Geist: I've always wanted to see the Arctic Circle. It just took me 50 years to find the perfect travel companion.

Oathkeeper: Geist... you will suffer for this.

Lady Geist: Yes. And you with me.

Johann Jr.: Oma... please...

Amber Hand: The terms?

If "Sacrifice Him" was chosen:

Lady Geist: One life in exchange for 200 years of complete obedience.

Amber Hand: Oathkeeper. Does this agree with you?

Johann Jr.: [screams]

The Patron vanishes. Johann Jr.'s corpse lies in an alleyway.

Lady Geist: It's like I told the doctor: I don't maintain relationships with useless people.

Oathkeeper: Oh Jeanne, you are a delight.

Lady Geist: Oh darling, if you think I'm fun now, wait until you see what I do next.

Flashback to several years ago. Lady Geist holds a baby Johann Jr. in her arms. Her son, Walter Geist, is with her.

Lady Geist: Did you pick a name?

Walter: We named him after dad. Johann? Can you say hi to "Oma?"

Lady Geist: Ugh, please not Oma, it sounds old.

Walter: [laughs] Sorry mom, you are old.

Lady Geist: Don't remind me...

Cuts back to the present day.

Amber Hand: The terms, Lady Geist.

Lady Geist: One life... in exchange for mine, Oathkeeper is banished from this plane!

Oathkeeper: What?!

Amber Hand: Done.

Oathkeeper: NO!

Cuts to a graveyard. Johann Jr. stands before the Geist family's gravestone.

Johann Jr.: I don't really know if flowers are the appropriate thing to bring to someone who endangered your life before saving it, but... I just... I just... I dunno, just had to see you.

Johann Jr. places the flowers on the gravestone.

Johann Jr.: Thank you.

Lady Geist summons the Patron.

Amber Hand: Lady Geist. Through your will, I am here... What would you ask of your Patron?

Lady Geist: Peace. This dance with Oathkeeper needs to end. Free me of his influence and let us all walk away prosperously!

Amber Hand: Very well.

The Patron vanishes. Oathkeeper is seperated from Lady Geist, causing her to age rapidly.

Lady Geist: ... And so our business is concluded.

Oathkeeper: So it would seem.

Lady Geist: Are you going to kill me?

Oathkeeper: Why would I? The nightmares of what you've done for the past 50 years will torment you far longer than any misery I inflict.

Lady Geist: You're joking, aren't you?

Oathkeeper: Tch, of course I am! I know you, Jeanne, you'll sleep like a baby. It's why you're one of my favorites.

Lady Geist: Am I, now?

Oathkeeper: Humanity is so predictable. And while I took no joy in being put on a leash, it at least was something... different.

Lady Geist: So what now? We go our separate ways?

Oathkeeper: Indeed. And pray whomever I make a bargain with in the future doesn't have a grudge against you.

Lady Geist: Well then. Perhaps I'll see you sooner than either of us think.

Oathkeeper: Safe travels, Lady Geist.

Lady Geist: May you find a host far less enterprising than myself.

Oathkeeper: Hm, I'm sure I will.

Cuts to an airport.

Announcer: Now boarding flight 3131 to Paris.

Johann Jr.: That's your flight, Oma.

Lady Geist: Thank you for your help. You are very much your father's son.

Johann Jr.: That means a lot. Oh! Don't forget your bag!

Lady Geist: Oh, that's for you darling... I know I haven't been an easy patient.

Johann Jr. looks in the bag.

Johann Jr.: I... I don't know what to say...

Lady Geist: Say "thank you" and waste it on something impractical.

Johann Jr.: Thank you... hey, Oma, I forgot to ask: what are you planning on doing in Europe anyway?
