It's so nice to know that my years of antisocial behavior can be put to good use.

Like most teenagers; Infernus was wild, rebellious, and impetuous. Unlike most teenagers, Infernus was a creature from another plane and had a supernatural mastery over fire. Needless to say: his youth was filled with no small amount of arson, murder, and evidence disposal. But that was then. Now an adult, Infernus has mellowed out considerably. He’s happy working at a bar with good live music, and talking to interesting people. That being said when someone at the bar gets belligerent or violent, he’s not afraid to dust off the skills he once honed.

Overview

Infernus' motivation in the ritual is to prevent Jezebel's Billiards Hall, the bar he tends to, from getting shut down down.[1][2]

Biography

As a second generation Ixian immigrant,[3] Infernus was born and raised in New York and has never visited Ixia.[4] He considers New York his home and doesn't follow news about Ixia or the Ixian war.[5] Infernus doesn't know how to speak Ixian because his parents only ever spoke English around him.[6]

Infernus used to work for the Mendoza Syndicate before he got replaced by Vyper,[7] and also worked with Wraith.[8][9] It's implied that he killed people at "Pier 31" during his youth.[10] When Infernus was around 18 years old, Hank helped him leave his life of crime behind by allowing him to become a bartender at Jezebel's Billiards Hall.[11][12] It's unknown how long Infernus has been a bartender for, although him carding Mina on her 16th birthday could mean that he's been working there for a least 7 years if Mina is the same age as Pocket.[13][14]

In the current day, Jezebel's is under threat of being shut down by the Alchemy Bureau due to a large number of infractions.[15][16] Dedicated to helping Hank, Infernus has decided to participate in the ritual to save the bar from closing.[1][12] Infernus' visual novel will tell of the story of Infernus trying to save Jezebel's.

Personality

Infernus is laid-back and friendly. A lot of characters are familiar with him through being regulars at Jezebel's, and Infernus himself claims to be friends with "a lot" of other bartenders in Manhattan.[17][18] He's fashionable and enjoys dressing well.[19][20]

Some characters question why Infernus is a bartender despite being a powerful fire-bending Ixian, but he finds value in doing good things after spending his youth making bad choices and believes becoming a bartender was the best thing he ever did.[21][22] He's haunted by his past and worries that he'll enjoy the thrills of the ritual and potentially fall back into a life of crime.[23][24][25]

Infernus is confident in his bartending skills, claiming to make the best sidecar in Manhattan.[26] Other characters also appreciate his cocktails and his work as bartender.[27][28][29]

Infernus is a fan of Cadence's music and wants to watch her set after the ritual.[30]

Appearance

Unused Infernus tail model

Infernus is a slender Ixian man with black skin, eyes hidden behind round orange glasses, elaborate glowing red patterns in his arms, and burning cornrow hair under a red fedora with a black band. He wears a black vest and necktie over a red shirt, black pants with a brown belt and suspenders, and black shoes. He carries a hand towel over his left shoulder, and cocktail glasses and mixers in his belt, in which he carries his Napalm. He has an "8" symbol in his belt buckle and in the back of his suspenders. He shoots fire from his right index and middle fingers as a weapon.

In The Binding of Oathkeeper artwork and in an unused older model, Infernus has a tail with a fiery end.

Character Relationships

Hank is Infernus' boss and friend at Jezebel's.

Infernus wants to save Jezebel's for Hank's sake because Hank "saved his life" by helping Infernus when he was a young adult.[11][12][31]

Since Infernus doesn't want Hank to worry about him, he hasn't told Hank about his involvement with the ritual.[32]

Wraith and Infernus used to work together while Infernus was a criminal.[8] While on the same team, Wraith tries to coax Infernus back into his criminal past.[33][34]

Wraith believes Infernus' work as a bartender is "boring". She also believes Infernus misses her, but he denies it.[9]

Infernus plays in Wraith's weekly poker game.[35] However, he tells Mo & Krill that he wants to stay away from Wraith out of fear of her pulling him back into crime.[36]

According to Graves, Wraith told Blackmore Academy students that play cards with her about Infernus' criminal past "with the mob".[37]

As someone who frequents Jezebel's, Lady Geist is friends with Infernus and Hank.[38]

Lady Geist refers to Infernus as "Fern" and "her bartender".[39][40] She likes Infernus' recipe of gin and tonic.[27]

As Jezebel's is under threat of closure, Lady Geist offers to help Infernus save the bar.[41] In one pathway in The Binding of Oathkeeper, Lady Geist gives Oathkeeper to Hank on the promise of providing the resources needed to keep the bar open.[42]

Infernus is friends with Mo and Krill.[43]

Mo & Krill are regular patrons at Jezebel's, and offer to help Infernus prevent Jezebel's from closing.[44]

Infernus is friends with Celeste and her found family. Celeste invites Infernus to come over to say hi to her family at the sideshow.[45]

Celeste refers to Infernus as "Fern".[46] She's also familiar with Hank and asks Infernus how Hank is holding up.[47]

Infernus once kicked Mina out of Jezebel's for using a fake ID on her 16th birthday.[13] She attempted to bribe him with money, to which he declined.[48]

Infernus' other patrons

As a bartender, Infernus is familiar with a lot of characters who frequent Jezebel's.

These characters include but aren't limited to: Abrams,[28] Kelvin,[49] Lash,[50] , Pocket,[51] the ShopkeeperShopkeeper,[52] Shiv,[29] and Silver.[53]

Infernus' friends and regular patrons call him Fern.

Infernus' Visual Novel

This page contains game content that is unfinished, work in progress, or unavailable in standard gameplay.
Main article: Infernus' visual novel

Infernus stars in his own visual novel, currently untitled.

Note: Infernus' Visual Novel is currently inaccessible to the main game, instead being something planned for release in the future. As such, everything in the current visual novel is prone to change, as it is still undergoing development.

Currently, only Chapter 1 of Infernus' visual novel is accessible.

Infernus' visual novel begins with Infernus greeting an old Lady Geist at Jezebel's Billiards Hall before being interrupted by Hank shouting from another room. Leaving Lady Geist to find her own seat, Infernus finds Hank speaking to an inspector from the Alchemy Bureau. The inspector had arrived to quietly judge Jezebel's and noticed several legal problems with the institution. Giving Hank a large list of infractions, the inspector tells Hank and Infernus that they have 2 weeks to fix the problems or they'll shut down Jezebel's. While Hank believes it's impossible to save the bar, Infernus reassures him that they can fix things and starts thinking up a plan.

Infernus makes a cameo in chapter 3b in Lady Geist's visual novel, The Binding of Oathkeeper. The scene in which Infernus appears is identical to chapter 1 in Infernus' visual novel.

Removed Lore

Inferno (Neon Prime)

Removed character interactions

  • Haze originally had kill lines against Infernus, implying that her intervention is why Infernus was able to walk free after his criminal youth.[73][74] These lines were removed in the Six New Heroes Update.
  • McGinnis used to frequent Jezebel's, referring to Infernus as "Fern".[75]

Neon Prime - Inferno

In Neon Prime, Infernus was originally a character named Inferno. Inferno was an android in an orange sci-fi uniform affiliated with The Midnight Robo Rally.
