A famed adventuring scientist, Kelvin made it his life's mission to explore and understand the unknowable. So naturally when rumors surfaced regarding an 8th astral gate hidden in the arctic, Kelvin couldn't build an expedition team fast enough. Assembling the brightest minds of his generation, Kelvin and his team set forth with much fanfare.
They never returned.
A year and a half later the frozen body of Kelvin was found by a fishing trawler, his corpse clutching a rock etched with glowing runes. The crew chipped away at the ice, looking to get a closer look at the body and were shocked when Kelvin opened his eyes. They checked his vitals... there was no pulse. They sought to bandage his open wounds... there was no blood. And yet, impossibly, Kelvin was "alive".
Having no memory of what happened on the expedition, Kelvin is looking for answers.
Overview
[edit | edit source]Kelvin's motivation and wish in the ritual is to rediscover what happened during his expedition to the Arctic.[1][2]
Biography
[edit | edit source]As a famous explorer, Kelvin has written popular books about his adventures.[3][4] One of his past expeditions was located at Ixia.[5]
Kelvin is consistently called an "Ice Wight" due to his undead state.[6] Kelvin believes the correct term is "Revenant", although he's unsure if there's really a difference.[7]
The exact cause of Kelvin's condition is unknown, but Kelvin believes it may be related to the glowing rock strapped to his back. For this reason, Kelvin hasn't taken off his parka since the expedition just in case the rock is the only thing keeping him alive.[8] Due to not changing his clothes, Kelvin's parka stinks.[9][10] The OSIC want to ask Kelvin questions about his undead condition.[11]
Kelvin's ice abilities were created with a mix of science and magic.[12][13] They seem unrelated to his glowing rock or undead condition, although he claims to be the only person able to safely use 
Arctic Beam,[14][15] likely due to the fact that Kelvin doesn't get cold anymore.[16]
Kelvin seems to have a Scandinavian accent.
Personality
[edit | edit source]Kelvin is confident and optimistic. He often calls other people "friends".[17][18] According to 
Apollo, Kelvin is known as one of humanity's bravest.[19]
Kelvin is somewhat egotistical, as he likes to boast about being "the best".[20][21][22] The Patrons feed into Kelvin's ego, offering him glory.[23][24] Kelvin is also quite blunt with people,[25][26] which causes him to have a reputation for being a little judgmental.[27]
Kelvin allegedly wrestles with a lot of guilt about the expedition.[28] He's been meeting with family members of his crewmates who never returned from it.[29] Despite the guilt, Kelvin remains optimistic about the ritual and his future.[30][31]
Kelvin has mixed feelings about his undead state. He thinks his condition is sad,[32] but he also believes he was gifted unnatural life and that he shouldn't squander his second chance.[33]
Kelvin likes to drink single malt Scotch.[34][35] He used to frequent Jezebel's before his Arctic expedition.[36]
Appearance
[edit | edit source]Kelvin is a middle-aged white man with blue eyes, ginger hair, and a thick beard. His hair and moustache are graying. He wears a thick blue parka with white fur, blue winter pants, white furry snow boots with spiked soles, and beige gloves. He carries a backpack attached to a large dark blue bone-shaped rock with glowing tribal carvings. He carries metal bottles, a purse, and various trinkets in his belt and backpack. His weapon is a two-handed gun that shoots snowballs.
Character Relationships
[edit | edit source]One of Kelvin's old friends was someone named "Ettrick", who Kelvin pushed away due to Ettrick's ambitions.[37] At the fundraiser for Kelvin's Arctic expedition, Ettrick "made a scene". When Kelvin returned from the expedition, he tried to find Ettrick but couldn't.[38] Kelvin seems remorseful about Ettrick, and believes that "if someone's going to kill him, it's going to be Ettrick".[39][40]
Seven
[edit | edit source]Seven has a one-sided hatred towards Kelvin for unknown reasons.[41][42][43]
Kelvin thinks Seven "seems familiar".[44] When being healed by Kelvin, Seven is reminded of "old times".[45]
Both Seven and Kelvin have an interest on researching Astral Gates.[46][47]
Seven believes Kelvin has a bigger ego than 
Lash.[48]
A likely possibility is that Seven is Ettrick. Seven believes that if anyone's going to kill Kelvin, it's going to be him, mirroring what Kelvin says about Ettrick.[49][40] Kelvin pushed Ettrick away due to his "ambition", which aligns with Seven's ambition to achieve apotheosis.[50] Seven also believes that mentors "use the young to achieve glories they could not achieve on their own", possibly referring to Kelvin.[51]
Dynamo and Kelvin are friends. They last saw each other at the Black Château, before Kelvin disappeared.[52]
Dynamo is a fan of Kelvin's books.[53]
Dynamo sometimes refers to Kelvin as "Kevin".[54]
Kelvin's Arctic expedition was funded by Lady Geist.[55][56] Lady Geist takes great offense if Kelvin is on the enemy team.[57][58]
Kelvin used to frequent Jezebel's before his Arctic expedition and is friends with Infernus.[36][59] Kelvin knows about Infernus' past as a criminal and scolds him while he's on the enemy team.[60][61]
Kelvin incorrectly assumes Infernus was born in Ixia.[62]
Kelvin is one of Paradox's targets. She says that her colleagues may have already broken into his home before the ritual started.[63]
The Paradox Organisation holds Kelvin in high regard, as they consider him "a thief who steals from the dead".[64]
Paradox herself finds Kelvin fun to mess with.[65] She also thinks he's a "sanctimonious bastard" who acts superior to others.[66][67]
Victor and Kelvin hoped that they could stick together, as they're both walking corpses.[68][69]
