Grey Talon

Revision as of 15:39, 15 June 2026 by FDDD1274 (talk | contribs) (I noticed that Pocket has their pronouns in the infobox and felt it should be included information for the rest of the heroes as well for consistencies sake. Revert if needed)

Grey Talon is a Hero in Deadlock. He is a clever, long-range combatant that uses his powerful bow in combination with traps and mystical flight to pin down and destroy his foes. With the ability to charge his arrow shot for powerful effect, Grey Talon can harry his foes at a distance before launching a guided Spirit Owl to finish them off.

A founder of the monster hunting organisation The Baxter Society, Grey Talon happily retired after 40 years of service to support his extended family. He was living well until he was alerted that that his son and daughter-in-law had died in a mysterious house fire. Now, he hunts the perpetrators of the arson, bow in hand.

  • Rain of Arrows works with   Split Shot, allowing Grey Talon to shoot 25 arrows.
    • Split Shot's multishot is applied before Rain of Arrows', regardless of order used; Their combined spread is approximately 28° between the furthest two shots.
  • Rain of Arrows grants increased air mobility, +25% Air Dash distance, and the ability to use any number of Air Dashes while active.
  • Grey Talon can Air Dash in any direction including Down Dash at any point immediately after casting. He cannot Air Jump or grab Ziplines while the ability is active.
  • Holding a direction while activating Rain of Arrows influences the direction Talon launches in. If cast without holding a direction, Talon jumps backwards.

  • Cancelling Rain of Arrows while launching keeps the launch momentum, which can be used for mobility and evasion.

  • Spirit Snare can be detonated by a   Charged Shot immediately after it's thrown, including while midair before it deploys its AoE visuals.
  • The hitbox to manually detonate a deployed snare is indicated by the smoke emitted from its center.

  • At angles where the center of a deployed snare is less visible, aim   Charged Shots slightly away from the surface the snare landed on.
  • When aiming to detonate a midair snare, aim slightly below to account for its arc.
  • Placing a trap in narrow hallways where enemies are likely to ambush you from (or escape to) can force them to either be cursed, slowed, and slightly damaged, or take a less ideal path.
  • Manual detonations can be used to quickly interrupt and weaken an enemy, and bypass the snare's 2s Arm Time.

  • To get a "Spirit Power Per Kill" stack, the enemy has to die within 4s after getting hit.
  • If Grey Talon dies while controlling the owl, it will automatically detonate.
  • Grey Talon's line of sight while controlling owl is based on the owl's hitbox. This creates a bug in which enemies cannot hit Melee Attacks on Grey Talon if the owl is out of the enemy's line of sight. However, they can still hit him with weapons and abilities.
  • The owl can enter Vents, if entering at an aligned horizontal direction.

  • Immediately flying the owl upwards after the initial cast time can give a better view and an easier path to a target.
  • Guided Owl can also be used as a targeted, long-range stun, capable of interrupting hard-to-reach channeled ults from behind cover.

Backstory

See Grey Talon/Lore for more story content.

A founding member of "The Baxter Society", Wesley Grey Talon spent close to 40 years hunting monsters that preyed on man before finally deciding to find a replacement and lay down his bow. Grey Talon's duties had meant that he never spent much time with his wife and kid, and now that his son had started a family of his own he realized that this was his last chance to reconnect with the people he loved.

Retirement suited Wesley. He made up for lost time with his wife. He doted on his grandkids. He cooked dinner for the whole family every Wednesday. He was happy.

Then he got the call.

The authorities claimed that it was a freak accident... that the fire consumed his son's house before anyone got a chance to escape. But Wesley knew better. His son's wife was an Ixian who could snuff out flame with a thought. If their bodies were found burned they had to be dead long before there was a fire.

And so Grey Talon has picked up his bow once more, and when he finds who's responsible there will be a bloody reckoning.

Trivia

  • Grey Talon's current model is inherited from his design in Neon Prime, in which he was called Orion. Based on datamined textures, he wore a visor and had a long beard. He had an animal labeled "archer_pet", which was reused as the creature in   Trapper's cage.
  • The current design for Spirit Snare resembles a dreamcatcher.
  • Grey Talon's bow was originally called Koschei.
  • A Work-In-Progress remodel for Grey Talon was found in the files in the Shop Rework Update. The model depicted Grey Talon as tall, muscular, and bald.
  • "Mourning in the Hideout" is displayed as one's status in the in-game Friends List when playing as Grey Talon in the Hideout.
