Kelvin is a Hero in Deadlock. He is a dedicated, undead scientist with a bevy of freezing abilities to slow his enemies and heal allies. He can conjure an Ice Path under his feet for faster movement for himself and his team, throwing Frost Grenades and firing his Arctic Beam at nearby enemies to set them up for his companions' attacks. Tactical usage of his Frozen Shelter ice dome can protect and heal allies while trapping hapless opponents.
As an adventuring scientist, Kelvin was particularly excited for rumours of an 8th Astral Gate opening in the Arctic, developing an expedition to hunt for it. However, something went wrong with the expedition, vanishing into the snow and leaving Kelvin's frozen, animate body to be discovered over a year later. With no memory of the expedition, Kelvin seeks the Patrons for answers.

A famed adventuring scientist, Kelvin made it his life's mission to explore and understand the unknowable. So naturally when rumors surfaced regarding an 8th astral gate hidden in the arctic, Kelvin couldn't build an expedition team fast enough. Assembling the brightest minds of his generation, Kelvin and his team set forth with much fanfare.
They never returned.
A year and a half later the frozen body of Kelvin was found by a fishing trawler, his corpse clutching a rock etched with glowing runes. The crew chipped away at the ice, looking to get a closer look at the body and were shocked when Kelvin opened his eyes. They checked his vitals... there was no pulse. They sought to bandage his open wounds... there was no blood. And yet, impossibly, Kelvin was "alive".
Having no memory of what happened on the expedition, Kelvin is looking for answers.
Lore
Kelvin's motivation and wish in the ritual is to rediscover what happened during the expedition to the Arctic.[1][2] While he doesn't know what happened, he allegedly did "horrifying" things.[3]
Kelvin allegedly wrestles with a lot of guilt about the expedition.[3] He's been meeting with family members of his crewmates who never returned from it.[4] Despite the guilt, Kelvin remains optimistic about the ritual and his future.[5][6]
Kelvin is consistently called an "Ice Wight" due to his undead state.[7] Kelvin believes the correct term is "Revenant", although he's unsure if there's really a difference.[8] Kelvin views his undead state as a gift.[9] The OSIC want to ask Kelvin questions about his condition.[10]
Kelvin hasn't taken off his parka since the expedition just in case the glowing rock strapped to his body is the only thing keeping him alive.[11]
As a famous explorer, Kelvin has written successful books about his adventures.[12][6] One of his past expeditions was located at Ixia.[13]
Kelvin exhibits a boastful personality.[14][15] He seems to have a reputation for being a little judgmental.[16]
Kelvin's ice abilities were created with a mix of science and magic.[17][18] They seem unrelated to his glowing rock or undead condition, although he claims to be the only person able to safely use Arctic Beam.[19][20] This is due to the fact that Kelvin doesn't get cold anymore.[21]
One of Kelvin's old friends was someone named "Ettrick", who Kelvin pushed away due to Ettrick's ambitions.[27] At the fundraiser for Kelvin's Arctic expedition, Ettrick "made a scene". When Kelvin returned from the expedition, he tried to find Ettrick but couldn't.[28] Kelvin seems remorseful about Ettrick, and believes that "if someone's going to kill him, it's going to be Ettrick".[29][30]
Character interactions
Seven has a one-sided hatred towards Kelvin for unknown reasons.[31][32][33] Kelvin thinks Seven "seems familiar".[34] Additionally, both Seven and Kelvin have an interest on researching Astral Gates.[35][36] When being healed by Kelvin, Seven is reminded of "old times".[37] Seven believes Kelvin has a bigger ego than Lash.[38]
A likely possibility is that Seven is Kelvin's old friend Ettrick. This is supported by one of Seven's lines to Kelvin that mirrors one of Kelvin's lines about Ettrick.[33][39] Kelvin pushed Ettrick away due to his "ambition", which aligns with Seven's ambition to achieve apotheosis.[27] Seven also believes that mentors "use the young to achieve glories they could not achieve on their own", possibly referring to Kelvin.[40]
Kelvin and Dynamo are friends. They last saw each other at the Black Château, before Kelvin disappeared.[41]
Kelvin understands why Grey Talon and Vindicta are consumed by rage and is sorry for them, but insists that their rage won't grant them peace.[42][43][44][45]
Kelvin and Victor promised each other that they'd stick together, as they're both walking corpses.[46][47]
