My vows are not taken lightly.

The Djinn are one of the more curious groups of people in the modern world. Possessing great power in controlled doses, Djinn are incapable of maintaining corporeal form for longer than 48 minutes without resting within a vessel. As a result, most Djinn employ human bodyguards for transport, protection, and companionship.

Mirage is one such bodyguard. Employed by Djinn ambassador Nashala Dion, Mirage is in New York on a diplomatic mission. It's the hope of the Djinn that they can negotiate with the US government for a sale of part of Wyoming so that they can build a sovereign nation for their people.

Overview

Mirage's wish (which is moreso Nashala's wish) is to help Nashala buy a piece of Wyoming to turn into a home for the Djinn.[1][2][3]

Biography

Mirage has worked for Nashala for a few years after she approached him with a job offer.[4]

Mirage believes the US Government will be willing to negotiate Wyoming because the Djinn can offer them money and power.[5] The Djinn found that Wyoming was "the most sensible place" for their new home.[6]

Mirage and Nashala have arrived in New York shortly before the ritual,[7] and they are guests at the Baroness Hotel.[8][9] Thet haven't had the chance to do much sightseeing, but are looking forward to seeing various locales.[10][11] They have visited New York's Public Library,[11] and intend to visit New Jersey and Columbia University.[12][13] Mirage also wants to try eating a hot-dog for the first time.[14]

Personality

Mirage is normally calm and well-spoken, but also has a tendency to shout during combat.[15][16][17][18]

Mirage is deeply dedicated to the Djinn. He believes serving them is an honor, and is willing to die and kill for Nashala.[19][20] However, he doesn't think his devotion is blind, and doesn't agree with all of Nashala's decisions.[21][22] He views the Djinn as people: some are "fascinating", while others are "assholes".[23] Most characters respect Mirage due to his conviction for the Djinn.[24]

In his free time, Mirage likes to play bowling and calls it "the sport of kings". He learned it in England.[25]

Appearance

Mirage is a brown-skinned Middle Eastern man with a sharp face, amber eyes, remarkable eyelashes, well-combed black hair with a front curl, and a full beard. He wears what seems to be a black 19th-century Imperial uniform jacket with a long coattail and a red sash, beige pants and gloves, brown boots, and a scarab pin on his chest. He has a mechanical device on his back attached to what seems to be a small speaker on his belt on one end, and an earpiece in his left ear on the other end.

He carries Nashala in a tall, elaborate bottle in his left hand, and she appears as a small pink and orange silhouette of a woman. His weapon is a flintlock pistol that is recharged by Nashala.

Character Relationships

Mirage is very loyal to Nashala and the Djinn's plight.[19][26]

While Mirage enjoys Nashala's company, he can find her frustrating to work with when she makes "impulsive, short-sighted" decisions (such as asking him to trust Seven).[22]

While working for Nashala, Mirage has visited "fantastic locales" with her, although talking about these locations publically would be a major break of Nashala's trust.[27]

Mirage fights with Nashala by his side since he believes that's the safest place for her.[28]

Anyone who wants to talk to Nashala must have Mirage's approval,[29] and anyone trying to steal or harm Nashala will be killed by Mirage.[30][31]

Mirage believes that Nashala doesn't need a wish to pull off the deal for Wyoming.[32]

Mirage and the Doorman are familiar with each other from the Baroness Hotel. When on enemy teams, the Doorman feels sorry for killing Mirage,[33][34] and Mirage is upset for having to leave the Baroness.[9]

The Paradox Organisation are a sworn enemy of the Djinn (and by extension Mirage), and the Djinn want to dismantle them.[35][36]

Paradox keeps trying to steal Nashala for the Paradox Museum.[37][38][39]

Haze and Mirage respect each other's discipline.[40][41] However, she criticizes him for wanting to use the Patron's wish to get Wyoming, instead of negotiating through official channels.[42][43]

Mirage wonders if Haze is in the ritual by her own will or under the OSIC's orders.[44]
