Rem is a Hero in Deadlock. An accidental stowaway from the world of dreams, Rem has found himself stranded in the city that never sleeps. Pillow fights are Rem's preferred form of conflict, tossing his favorite pillow at enemies to knock them back when they're getting too close. His friends, however, he likes to keep nearby - leaping to their aid when things get dicey and taking a quick nap on their shoulder. His Lil Helpers are curious creatures, taking interest in everything the streets of New York have to offer, and cheering on his allies as they go. Ultimately when Naptime hits, no one will be able to keep their eyes open.

A sleepy child from a world of dreams, Rem and his little helpers found themselves stranded in New York. Searching the five boroughs for a way home, Rem seeks to summon the Patrons so he can finally return to his family.

Rem was released on January 26, 2026 as the first winner of the Old Gods, New Blood update contest.

The burst heal is only applied to the first target. The following targets only receive the lingering regen.
Rem can jump to Troopers if they are followed by a Lil Helper.
If Rem holds the melee key after exiting Tag Along, they can hit a heavy melee without triggering its visual and sound effects. This is likely a bug.

Lil Helpers

Signal a Helper to lend a hand. They can collect boxes, do Sinner's Sacrifices, or be sent to support allies and troopers.

Follow a hero: Provides a short burst of spirit resist and fading move speed.

Follow a trooper: Provides healing, damage, resists, and allows tagging along. When no hero is around, souls from trooper kills are split amongst the team.

Can be cast during Tag Along. Helpers will take a nap for 15.1s after following someone.

Helpers can be assigned to Sinner's Sacrifice machines, and will always secure full jackpots as if done with a heavy melee. They are not interrupted if a player hits the machine.
- Helpers wait until the final lightbulbs start flashing to do the last hit, allowing a short window of time for another player to get the jackpot first.
Helpers can get Bridge Buffs.
Helpers can be assigned to a Curiosity Shop to buy items in queue. They can also buy from enemy shops, making Rem the only hero able to do so. (This does not apply to base shops.)
- Rem does not need to have line of sight to the shop to send a helper to it.
Helpers have a short delay to collect souls after breaking boxes, allowing a player to collect them first.

Naptime

Cast your gaze forward, piercing walls and floors. Enemies in the gaze are slowed, have reduced dash distance, and cannot use movement abilities.

When the channel ends they fall asleep before waking up to a splitting headache that deals heavy spirit damage.

Tag Along lingering heal duration reduced from 3s to 2s (values rebalanced to be the same overall heal just faster). Tag Along T2 Barrier and Item Duration/Range effectiveness increased from 25% to 35%. Tag Along T3 now also increases Missing Health Heal from 0.03 to 0.05 and Regen Per Second from 0.66 to 1.0. Tag Along can now be cast through veils. Reduced lockout period after ejecting from Tag Along from 1s to 0.3s. Tag Along time to fly to your ally is now 50% faster. Tag Along heal duration is now displayed on the HUD as well as the healthbar icon. Tag Along: fixed specific abilities/items that could kill Rem while he's napping. Tag Along now allows friendly auras to affect Rem. Tag Along eject is no longer affected by debuff resistance and now launches upwards slightly more to prevent hitting the ground. Tag Along eject no longer briefly restricts movement abilities and input. Naptime now provides +30% damage reduction in the base ability (T3 still adds +50%).
April 30, 2026	Fixed a bug with Naptime that allowed you to attack while casting it. Pillow Toss recharge timer reduced from 10s to 9s.

Trivia

Rem has a secret room in the Hideout that can be accessed by entering the vents behind the news computer or the large statue in the Atrium, then climbing over the boiler machine in the backroom.
Rem was originally leaked in November 2025 with a screenshot of the character's select screen.^[1] On 20th January 2026, Rem was teased in the Hideout with a pillow in a chair.
Rem's name references Rapid Eye Movement, a unique and active phase of sleep where most dreaming occurs, characterized by fast brain waves, increased heart rate, and rapid, darting eye movements behind closed lids.
Rem's design trivia
- Base body-design resembles of anthropomorphic wingless / Minoan gryphon / demigryph / keythong.
- Thematically, Rem's clothing gives an impression of a folklore sandman.
  - Rem's facial shape resembles a mask of plague doctors.
- Drifting star patterns can be observed on Rem's plumage and inner ears.
While it hasn't been disclosed what exactly Rem is, there are many possible inspiration sources:
- Rem's ability to "smell" and "taste" dreams could be reference to baku, a nightmare devouring benevolent chimera. There is also a dream-destroying variant of baku.
- Finnish mythology has menninkäinen, a nocturnal daylight-avoiding but otherwise mostly philanthropic spirit combining elements of fairies / sprites, trolls, and nisse / tomte / brownies / leprechauns (not to be confused to "maahinen" which is more human-like / humanoid akin to gnomes or imps).
  - The Lil Helpers highlight the curiosity and preference of shiny items.
Rem has a line where he dreams about mangos,^[2] which are the favorite fruit of developer Icefrog and an item in Dota 2.^[3]
