The Bermuda Triangle was never a myth, it was a shadowline nexus deep underneath the Atlantic Ocean. For the most part, the things that escaped this astral gate were benign (like Nessie), but now something dark and predatory known only as The Adversary hunts the seas... and ocean denizens are scared to death.
One of those inhabitants, a psychic sea anemone, wants to do something about it. Summoning an ectoplasmic goo body to traverse the surface, Viscous is desperately trying to summon the Patrons in order to keep The Deep safe from the horror that lurks below.
Overview
Viscous' wish and motivation in the ritual is to kill the Adversary.[1][2]
Biography
Viscous is a psychic sea anemone from The Deep who left the ocean to seek help after the Adversary arrived and started killing everyone.[3] Constructing an ectoplasmic goo body to traverse the surface, Viscous seeks the Patrons in order to save the Deep.[1]
Viscous is commonly referred to as a "tourist".[4][5][6][7] While on the surface, he wants to watch South Pacific,[8] free his "brothers" from New York's aquariums,[9] try climbing some stairs in his goo body,[10] and visit a variety of locations in New York, including Staten Island, Long Island, New Jersey and Secaucus.[11] While enjoying his time on the surface, Viscous is still researching the Adversary.[12]
Unlike Viscous, the other denizens of the Deep find legs "unnerving".[13]
Personality
Viscous is innocent and optimistic, eager to learn about the surface world and make new friends. He likes to compliment others,[14][15] although he's "socially awkward" and unfamiliar with the customs of human society.[16] Viscous likes people-watching,[17] and enjoys violence, which surprises him.[18][19] Viscous commonly refers to people as "surface dwellers".[20][21]
Despite his upbeat nature, Viscous takes his mission to stop the Adversary very seriously.[22][23] He believes that others underestimate him and ignore the problems of the Deep.[24][25][26] The other heroes don't know or don't take the threat of the Adversary seriously.[27]
Viscous often speaks in a very literal way.[28][29][30] The concept of sarcasm seems to be new to him.[31] Viscous can't read and doesn't have a mouth or nose (though he's likely referring to his goo body, since sea anemones do have mouths).[32][33][14]
Appearance
Viscous' current model is a modified version of 
Kelvin's Neon Prime model. He has a green goo body shaped like an astronaut suit, with black shoes and gloves, and a black patch on his right shoulder. His head is a green sphere with a black neck connection and two misshapen black dots for eyes (the right one is slightly bigger). A thin black skeleton with ball joints can be seen inside his body. His weapon is a futuristic two-handed gun, similar to Kelvin's but black.
Viscous has had two proposed redesigns in the files, one in which he had a large body with a coral arm and an octopus-like creature inside his head, and another in which he was characterized as a tourist wearing shorts, sunglasses, an orange cap and a portable camera. His current portrait artwork and icon depict Viscous with a bulky featureless goo body, more similar to his current model.
Information
The Cube is a cube made of protoplasmic goo.[34] The Cube nullifies all pain, even for characters like 
Victor.[35] Viscous doesn't question how the Cube works, even when it can heal non-organic bodies like 
Bebop's.[36] Viscous spends time in the Cube whenever he feels sad.[37]
Character Relationships
The Adversary is massacring the denizens of the Deep,[3] and Viscous believes that, if he can't stop the Adversary, it's only a matter of time before the Adversary starts killing everything on the surface.[22][23] Viscous has entered the ritual to stop the Adversary, hoping to get rid of it to save the Deep.[1]
Haze takes Viscous and his problems seriously.[25]
Haze wants to know more about the Adversary in case more creatures like it come through the Deep's astral gate.[38]

Viscous seemingly used to have a different backstory. According to old Patron lines, Viscous was shunned by humanity[52] and seen as "a mistake" and "an abomination".[53] Viscous was ambitious[54] and wanted his name etched in history, instead of "remembered with the fondness of a bus driver he couldn't bother to learn the name of".[55]
Removed character interactions
Fathom was another hero from the Deep, like Viscous. It's unknown how Fathom and Viscous were related, as they didn't have voice lines for each other.
Neon Prime
In Neon Prime, Viscous looked the same as the first version of his current model, but he had an icon in which he was depicted with a pufferfish inside his head.
