The Bermuda Triangle was never a myth, it was a shadowline nexus deep underneath the Atlantic Ocean. For the most part, the things that escaped this astral gate were benign (like Nessie), but now something dark and predatory known only as The Adversary hunts the seas... and ocean denizens are scared to death.
One of those inhabitants, a psychic sea anemone, wants to do something about it. Summoning an ectoplasmic goo body to traverse the surface, Viscous is desperately trying to summon the Patrons in order to keep The Deep safe from the horror that lurks below.

Personality
Viscous is innocent and optimistic, eager to learn about the surface world and make new friends, and likes to compliment others.[1] However, he takes his mission to stop the Adversary very seriously, as noted by 
Seven.[2] He believes that others underestimate him and the problems of the Deep.[3][4]
Viscous is commonly referred to as a "tourist".[5][6][7][8] While on the surface, he wants to watch South Pacific,[9] free his "brothers" from New York's aquariums,[10] try climbing some stairs in his goo body,[11] and visit a variety of locations in New York, including Staten Island, Long Island, New Jersey and Secaucus.[12]
Viscous enjoys violence, which surprises him.[13][14]
Viscous likes people-watching.[15]

Viscous can't read.[16]
The Cube is a protoplasmic cube.[17] The Cube nullifies all pain, even for characters like 
Victor.[18] Viscous doesn't question how the Cube works, even when it can heal non-organic bodies like 
Bebop's.[19] Viscous spends time in the Cube whenever he feels sad.[20]

Haze takes Viscous and his problems seriously.[4] She wants to know more about the Adversary in case more creatures like it come through the Deep's astral gate.[21]
