Time for some misdirection.

Sinclair is a Hero in Deadlock. With their trusty magic wand, they can shoot Vexing Bolts to surprise enemies and use magic to turn them into Rabbits. The Spectral Assistant amplifies their damage and can serve as a fast escape route. Sinclair can even turn their enemies' abilities against themselves with their surprising final trick, Audience Participation.

Henry and Savannah were two young stage magicians in love, who bound their souls to each other for eternity. However, their relationship was strained after a tragic on-stage accident claimed both of their lives. Now, under the shared title of Sinclair, they seek a way to be separated and find peace in the afterlife.

Sinclair was added to Hero Labs (as Magician) on October 24, 2024, and officially released on January 17, 2025 (as THE MAGNIFICENT SINCLAIR).

Backstory

[edit | edit source]

See Sinclair/Lore for more story content.

Henry's parents told him he was too young and impulsive to mess with real magic, and so they gave him a deck of cards to play with. He took to sleight of hand naturally and soon was dazzling his classmates with fantastic feats of illusions that were done without mystic artifacts or incantation.

When he was in high school he met Savannah, and their mutual love of stage magic sparked a whirlwind romance. Soon they fell in love and created an act together. Obviously they were meant to be; and so at prom, Henry proposed to Savannah and they married soon after graduation.

Unsurprisingly both sets of parents were not thrilled at this prospect, but Henry and Savannah knew they were soulmates. And so they cemented their love for one another by having a blood mystic bind their souls for eternity.

When an on-stage accident claimed both their lives, no one was sure who to blame. Henry claims Savannah was out of position. Savannah says Henry didn't wait for his cue. But one thing's for sure, since their souls are tied to each other neither one of them have been able to move on. Now a bickering pair of ghosts, Henry and Savannah need to work together if they want to have any chance of undoing their eternal union.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Sinclair changes voices on death, depending on which ghost is controlling the body. It starts as Henry's voice, then changes to Savannah's when Henry dies and vice-versa.
    • Sinclair is the only hero who has voice lines on respawn, to indicate which Sinclair is now in control.
  • Sinclair's weapon name The Prestige is a possible reference to the Christopher Priest's novel of the same name (which was adapted to movie by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan in 2006).
    • The weapon was previously named Legerdemain and Magic Wand.
  • Sinclair's current design is based on one of the scrapped designs for Wraith. It is also used in a Metal Skin advert.
  • Sinclair's lead developer is Hopoo,[3] best known as the co-creator of the Risk of Rain series.
  • The Spectral Assistant currently uses a modified version of Lady Geist's original model prior to the Six Heroes update.
  • Sinclair's bunny uses the same model as Arnabus the Fairy Rabbit from Dota 2.
  • Savannah's voice actor, Andia Winslow, also plays the role of Allie Kinkaid in Holliday's visual novel.
  • "Working Magic in the Hideout" is displayed as one's status in the in-game Friends List when playing as Sinclair in the Hideout.
  • When copying Yamato's Shadow Transformation, the description shows "Become infused with Sinclair's shadow soul." instead of 'Become infused with Yamato's shadow soul."
  • If a hero has a voice line warning against a specific enemy ultimate, that voice line is triggered if the enemy Sinclair copies and uses that ultimate.
