'''Viscous''' is a [[Hero]] in ''[[Deadlock]]''. He is a vexing opponent with versatile goo abilities, a psychic sea anemone with an ectoplasmic goo body. He can Splatter his foes with a large ball of goo and Puddle Punch both allies and enemies to knock them around, while encasing himself or allies in a Cube of goo for protection. For maximum disruption, Viscous can morph into a large Goo Ball and bounce off of walls and enemies alike.

Cubes are for healing. Balls are for murder!

Viscous is a Hero in Deadlock. He's green.[4] A psychic sea anemone in a protoplasmic suit, Viscous can throw Splatter to cover the area in green goo which slows down his victims and leaves them vulnerable to Puddle Punches, which will knock his enemies away from their friends and his friends away from their enemies. Even if they manage to catch Viscous it doesn't matter, as anything inside The Cube is completely invulnerable. Soon Goo Ball comes, and walls painted green will be joined by echoes of screams.

Viscous is a kind, if not childish psychic sea anemone whose home in the Bermuda Triangle has been invaded by a mysterious, dangerous predator only known as the Adversary. He reached the surface in a body built from ectoplasmic goo; his mission to summon the Patrons to protect his home in the Deep.

Viscous was released on August 1, 2024.

Healing amplified by Healing Booster and affected by healing reductionHealing triggers Healing Tempo's unique effect
  • The Cube does not interrupt actions and channeled abilities.
    • If a player starts parrying before being cubed, the parry can still block enemy Melee Attacks and stun them.
    • You can still be sent to Baroness Hotel by The Doorman's Hotel Guest when you are encased by The Cube.
    • If you are still encased by The Cube when the Baroness Hotel channel ends, you will remain encased when returned to your original position, and The Cube's effect will still apply.
  • Players can still be targeted by abilities and items inside The Cube, but take no damage.
  • The Cube has reduced friction and can be pushed by melee attacks and Displacement abilities.
  • When casting The Cube on an ally, there is a short initial window in which they cannot leave The Cube.

Backstory

[edit | edit source]

See Viscous/Lore for more story content.

The Bermuda Triangle was never a myth, it was a shadowline nexus deep underneath the Atlantic Ocean. For the most part, the things that escaped this astral gate were benign (like Nessie), but now something dark and predatory known only as The Adversary hunts the seas... and ocean denizens are scared to death.

One of those inhabitants, a psychic sea anemone, wants to do something about it. Summoning an ectoplasmic goo body to traverse the surface, Viscous is desperately trying to summon the Patrons in order to keep The Deep safe from the horror that lurks below.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • He's green.[4]
  • Viscous was the first new hero to be added in Deadlock after the start of the playtest.
  • Viscous' current model is a modified version of Kelvin's old model from Neon Prime.
    • Viscous' head was changed from black to green in the 2024-09-26 Update, because his old icon was easily confused with Dynamo.
    • A work-in-progress alternate model can be found in the files, labeled Viscous v2, in which he is a large man with a coral arm and an octopus-like creature in his head.
    • A new model labeled Viscous_tourist, in which he wears shorts, sunglasses, an orange cap and a portable camera, has also been referenced in the files and leaked in images in June 2025. The current icon for Goo Ball shows the camera, glove and boot from this new model.
  • In Neon Prime, Viscous was a pufferfish in a suit, instead of a sea anemone.
  • "Wishing the Hideout was The Cube" is displayed as one's status in the in-game Friends List when playing as Viscous in the Hideout.
