Once, Lady Jeanne Geist was the toast of the town. But as time passed and her beauty faded she found herself further and further from her glory days in High Society until finally she was nothing more than a frail woman in a nursing home, telling stories of a glorious past. And that’s when Oathkeeper revealed himself. A powerful spirit from another plane, Oathkeeper offered her a path to reclaim her past glories… he could restore her youth; all she had to do was drain the essence of the living to sustain herself.
Geist was torn. Obviously murder was ghoulish business, and undoubtedly Oathkeeper was not an entity that could be trusted… but still, the thought of having a second chance of reliving her youth was too good to pass up. And so she concocted a plan: after making a pact with Oathkeeper she would bind and ward him, limiting his influence and pull over her. Oathkeeper would still get fed; but on her terms, not his.
However, as years have turned to decades; the strength of the Ward has weakened, and Oathkeeper hungers more than he ever has in the past…
Lady Jeanne Geist (married name) was born in France, in 1815. She married German artist Johann Geist.[2] Jeanne and Johann had a son named Walter in 1850, and Johann died in 1880.[3]
Circa 1899, when Jeanne was around 84 years old, the first Maelstrom happened, bringing various supernatural forces to Earth, and the spirit Oathkeeper was one of them. Jeanne made a pact with Oathkeeper to regain her youth in exchange for draining the life of others. She was initially reluctant, but accepted the deal. However, with the help of Walter, she made a ward to keep Oathkeeper under control. As the ward was "against the spirit of the deal," Oathkeeper promised to make Jeanne suffer if he ever broke free.
Walter had a son whom he named after his father, Johann "Jr." Johann Jr. became a doctor, and after Walter died, he did the maintenance of his grandmother's ward. Jeanne and Walter had "a terrible sense of humor", according to Johann Jr.
Now, 50 years after her initial pact and on the eve of the second Maelstrom, Geist has to decide how she'll deal with Oathkeeper, and whether she'll continue to kill others to stay young or accept her natural aging and eventual death.[4]
While her exact motivations change depending on what path she takes in The Binding of Oathkeeper, Lady Geist's main goal in the ritual is to prevent Oathkeeper from breaking free and killing her.[5][6][7][8]
Lady Geist holds her public image in extremely high regard.[9][10][11][12]
Lady Geist is fashionable and well-versed in notable haberdasheries and brands.[13][14][15]
Lady Geist seems to own a foundation for homeless people.[16] Johann Geist used to take her to "hundreds" of fundraisers in the past.[17]
Lady Geist enjoys going to Jezebel's and offers to help prevent the bar from being shut down by the Alchemy Bureau.[18][19][20] She used to like the Baroness Hotel, but believes their "standards went to hell."[21][22] Lady Geist visited the Paradox Museum once, and thought it was "cliché and overwrought."[23]
It's implied that, had Lady Geist made her deal with Oathkeeper transparent, she would've been hunted down by the Baxter Society.[24] The OSIC are aware of her deal with Oathkeeper and are keeping an eye on her, but haven't sent a Sandman after her yet.[25][26][27]
Lady Geist's gun was a gift from Johann Geist.[28]
Lady Geist's hair smells vaguely like flowers.[29]
Lady Geist has an old grudge against Paradox.[32] Paradox has stolen one of her husband's paintings.[33][34]
In one of the visual novel's endings, Abrams moves in to Lady Geist's apartment.[35]
Lady Geist frequents Jezebel's and is friends with Hank and Infernus.[4] She refers to Infernus as "Fern" and "her bartender".[36][37] She likes Infernus' recipe of gin and tonic.[38]
Geist is a German word that can be translated as "spirit/mind".
Lady Geist is French, but she uses her late German husband's last name.
Lady Geist is referred to as "Oma" (German: grandma) by her grandson Johann Jr.
Alongside Mina, Lady Geist is one of the few heroes to holds her gun in the left hand, as Oathkeeper is in her right arm in-game. However, in a concept art and in The Binding of Oathkeeper artwork, Oathkeeper is in her left arm.
Lady Geist was named Spectre in Neon Prime, and later renamed to Ghost.
Before Lady Geist's model was updated, there were two work-in-progress models in the files labeled Ghost_test and Ghost_v2.
"Being Fabulous in the Hideout" is displayed as one's status in the in-game Friends List when playing as Lady Geist in the Hideout.
Lady Geist was referenced in the videogame Skullgirls Mobile as a variant of the character Black Dahlia.
