Aside from the playable characters in the game, the setting of Deadlock also features a series of minor characters, usually mentioned in headlines from The New York Oracle, the backgrounds of heroes or the visual novels.

Ms. Shelly Fisher

Shelly Fisher

Main article: Shelly Fisher

Shelly Fisher is  Bebop's creator. She is a widowed junkyard attendant who built Bebop, thus relying on Bebop for support in paying for her treatment. Johann Geist Jr. is her doctor.[1]

The Geists

Johann Geist

Born in 1805 and dying in 1880, Johann Geist was a German painter and the husband of  Jeanne Geist.[1] 50 years before the Ritual, the Paradox Organisation stole one of Johann's paintings.[2][3][4]

Walter Geist

The son of Johann and Lady Geist. Born in 1850 and died sometime in the 1900s.[1]

Johann Geist (Jr.)

Main article: Johann Geist Jr.

The grandson of Lady Geist and the doctor of Shelly Fisher.[1]

The Arroyos

Main article: The Arroyo's

Carlos Arroyo

The father of the family and a Community organiser in Spanish Harlem. Possibly looking to run for mayor.[5][6]

Maria Arroyo

The mother of the family. Has a date night with Carlos planned at The Baroness Hotel.[7]

Sophia Arroyo

A young woman who studies under  Dynamo in Columbia University. She works with  Wraith to fund her tuition.[5]

Manny Arroyo

Sophia's younger brother. He's a fan of  Kelvin and his books.[8][9]

Marla

Marla is  Dynamo's wife. They have been married for 31 years.[10] She bakes Dynamo key lime pies despite him being incapable of eating them and made enough for Dynamo to share with his team if they win.[11][12]

Agent Marlowe

Main article: OSIC

Marlowe is an OSIC Agent.[13][14] He also is a friend of  Venator.[15]

The Troubadour

Main article: The Troubadour

"The Troubadour" is the name given by media for a serial killer who commited a killing spree in a town in central Illinois. He was confronted by the town's sheriff,  Holliday, but he managed to escape by turning into a murder of crows and flying away, although Holliday still has been looking for him. Both she and the New York Oracle speculate that The Troubadour is flying from Champaign–Urbana to New York.[13]

Nashala Dion

Nashala Dion is a Djinn ambassador, who has employed  Mirage to work as her bodyguard and companion. Mirage enjoys Nashala's company, but he also finds her "impulsive, short-sighted" decisions "frustrating".[16] She (and Mirage) are currently in New York attempting to arrange a deal so the Djinn can buy a portion of Wyoming.

Cadence and the Requiem Boys

Main article: Cadence

Cadence and the Requiem Boys are a band, with Cadence as their lead vocalist, that produced the single "Paying the Price". The song has concerned some parents over its mention and "glorification" of human sacrifice.[17]

John Hathorne

John Hathorne was a magistrate and merchant who had a key role as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials during the 1600s which persecuted people believed to be witches. One of the people sentenced to death by him was  Vindicta, who now holds a grudge against his descendants after she was brought back into reality from the first maelstrom.

John Hathorne (Jr.)

Main article: Friends of Humanity

A "controversial speaker" and descendant of the original John Hathorne currently in New York.[18]

He is a member of the neo inquisition political group "Friends of Humanity" which has rallied for the US to stop sending aid to the Outer Planes.

There was an assassination attempt on his life.[19]

Ettrick

Main article: Seven/Lore

Ettrick is an old friend of   Kelvin, who the latter has not seen since his return from the expedition. Ettrick held ambitions for an unknown goal, which drove Kelvin to push him away.[20] Ettrick was "rather rude" and "caused a scene" at Kelvin's fundraiser, according to   Lady Geist.[21]

The Adversary

Main article: The Deep

The Adversary is a creature from an Outer Plane that stalks the Deep. It is described as "dark and predatory" and "a genocidal force of nature".  Viscous says that if the Adversary isn't stopped, "he will come for everything".[22][23]

Mendoza

Main article: The Mendoza SyndicateA crime lord of the Mendoza Syndicate who used to rule over Spanish Harlem before   Ivy spent 18 years dismantling his organization.[24]

Mendoza was forced out of New York, but still seems to be operating under the radar.[25][26] He seems to make bets on Bear Pit fights with   Wraith.[27]

Apollo's Father

The current royal ruler of North Ixia,[28][29]   Apollo's father is referred to as a warlord and has the authority equivalent to a governor and a general.[30]

Apollo is proud of his father and believes his father is proud of him.[31] While mentioned that Apollo's father expects great things from him,[32] Apollo claims that he isn't fighting in the ritual for his father.[33] Apollo inherited his sword from his father.[34]

Apollo's father says "loyalty is everything" and "the first step to victory begins with crushing the enemy's hope".[35][36]

The Lich

The Lich is the necromatic mentor of   Graves. The lich is female,[37] although they currently only exist as a severed hand, which Graves found in a sealed lead box at a cemetery.[38]

The Lich taught Graves how to cast   Jar of Dead,[39] and seems to be the one casting   Borrowed Decree in-game.[40]

Graves idolises the Lich and considers her her best friend.[40][41] While Graves deeply trusts the Lich, there are implications that the Lich is just using her to get what she wants.[42][43] While occasionally warned about the dangers of a lich's hand, Graves ignores the warnings.[44][45][46]

The Lich knows   Grey Talon and warns Graves of him.[47]

The Lich wants   Abrams' Tome.[48]

Captain Murphy

Captain Murphy is   Holliday's contact in the New York Police Department. She uses his help to track down The Troubadour.[13]  Yamato threatens to kill Murphy should Holliday not "play her part" during the ritual.[49]

Allie Kinkaid

A reporter from The New York Oracle. She's writing an interview with  Seven.[13][50]

Hank

Main article: Jezebel's

Hank is the owner of Jezebel's Billard Hall. He's the boss and close friend of  Infernus and is friends with   Lady Geist. [1]

Bryce

The brother of  Paige, Bryce was a rebellious teen who wanted to use his family's bibliomancy for his own desires. A few years before the ritual, he was kicked out of his family's house for unknown reasons, and has been missing since. Paige is participating in the ritual to find out what happened to Bryce and to restore her family.[51]

Bryce used to hang out with  Vyper[52] and is described by Paige as a "curmudgeon".[53]   Venator believes Bryce is beyond saving, expressing remorse that Paige has "thrown away her life to save someone who doesn't deserve it".[54][55]  Haze believes Paige would be happier if she lets her brother go.[56]

Viscount Simon

Simon is the vampire viscount of New York.[57]

Simon wants   Drifter to be executed for his refusal to follow the vampire nation's laws.[58]

Simon doesn't seem to know that   Mina is attempting to take his place as viscount of New York.   Haze mentions that the viscount will owe the OSIC some favors if she kills Mina or Drifter during the ritual.[59][60]

Yamato (The Brother)

Main article: Seventh Moon  Kaori's brother Yamato (not to be confused with the playable Yamato) was one of the co-leaders of the Seventh Moon before he lost his life saving Kaori from a coup. The goal of expanding the Seventh Moon to America was Yamato's dream.[61][62] After his death, Kaori took on her brother's name to honor his memory and live out his dream.[63]

Kaori's ultimate ability (  Shadow Transformation) is Kaori infusing Yamato's shadow soul with herself.[64][65]

According to Kaori, Yamato had a "useless" body guard.[66]

Molly Molenzo

A convict at Rikers, Molly was shanked by   Vyper using a toothbrush-mattress spring combo.[67] The stabbing of Molly was heard about by   Wraith, who mentions that she "isn't friends" with Molly.[68]   Yamato wants to speak to Molly about something important.[69]

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a performer at a place called Pole Palace.   Vyper calls her a "librarian" and mistakes   Paige for her.[70]

Blockhead Lenny

One of the sideshows at Coney Island, Lenny is friends and coworkers with  Celeste. He's implied to be stubborn,[71] and is possibly the friend of Celeste who sold part of their soul to cover a gambling debt.[72][73] Lenny once got beaten by  Lash in the Bear Pit.[74] Part of Lenny's act includes knife throwing.[75]

Keruba the Mermaid, Chickenwing and Ted

Friends of  Celeste who work alongside her at Coney Island's sideshow.[72]

Holliday's sister

Holliday has an unnamed sister who's dead.[76][77] It's implied that she could have been a victim of the Troubadour.[78]

Seigfried

Somebody who   Calico assassinated under   Mirage's nose.[79]

Hathorne Jr.'s Brother

The brother of Hathorne Jr. who was assassinated by   Vindicta while he was day-drinking on a speedboat.[80]

Father Julian

An acquantance of   Dynamo and   Venator who is currently being possessed.[81]

Sandra

Someone who   Mina knows that thinks   Lash is hot.[82]

A duo of theater writers who produced the musical South Pacific, which had its tickets scalped and resold for 1/8 of a soul.[88]

Eric Clansky

A man standing trial for a botched exorcism.[89]

Miser Heart

The person accusing Mr Clansky in court for causing the spirit inhuman pain and suffering.

George Frederick Cooke

A cat familiar duo running a cat café in Soho.[91]

  • Allie Kinkaid's name may be a reference to Alex Kincaide, a journalist character in Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
  • Chickenwing and Ted were both teased 3 months before Celeste's backstory was revealed, in a joke post by developer Hopoo.[92]
